One change that comes with this addition is the definition of what constitutes a Discontinued story. Before now, a story in progress would be given "discontinued" status when 90 days had passed without an update. Such stories would remain listed in the Contributed Stories until 180 days had passed. If no updates were made at this time (which is the case for about 99% of the stories that are labeled "discontinued"), then it would be officially relegated to the Discontinued Stories.

The new process cuts out the middle man, so to speak. A story in progress will remain listed on the Contributed stories page for 180 days. After 180 days pass without an update to the story it will be moved to the Discontinued Stories immediately. The existing stories that had been labeled as Discontinued after 90 days have been adjusted for the new 180-day parameter.

Because there were several stories slated for listing in the Discontinued file with links that had not been moved there, you will notice a significant decrease in the number of stories listed on the Contributed Stories page. All of the in-progress stories that had not been updated within the past 180 days (50 of them!) were moved to the Discontinued page.
