"You are getting too old for this [often said while I was getting diapered.] "You will get to do that when you stop wearing diapers."

Ben	21	It was not a big deal to my parents. I was potty trained right around my third birthday with little trouble, although I continued to wet the bed for many years, until I was 14. I suspect the continued bedwetting was not a surprise to my parents for a number of reasons; first, I was a deep sleeper; second, my brother (two years older than me) also wet (he would continue to wet until shortly after he turned 8); and lastly, both of my parents were bedwetters as well; my dad wet until he was about 10 or 11, and my mom wet until she was about 13. Numerous other members of my extended family were also wetters. They simply put vinyl mattress covers on our beds, diapers on us, and that was that. We were never punished or humiliated; they knew this was out of our control and that we would outgrow it in time. I wore standard baby diapers at night until I was 6, and my brother wore them until he outgrew his wetting at 8. After I outgrew diapers, I wore Pull-Ups until I was 9, Goodnites until 13, and spent the last year in store brand adult Pull-Ups.
