My mom tried to first potty train him when he was almost 4 but he had multiple accidents on a daily basis and she put him back in diapers full time until he was 5. Even when he was 5, he really struggled with daytime accidents and continued to wet the bed every night.

They hated and even acted when small like they were scared of the toilet.

Amy	18+	David	13	We'd use cloth diapers on him because we wanted him to feel his wetness. I'd take him to the potty when I thought he needed to go and hold his penis or set him on the potty. I don't think he really ever understood what was going on. He just didn't catch on to potty training. I'd ask him if he needed to go potty - he never really answered me - I'd just take him to the potty. But often he'd not go in the potty and as soon as I pinned his diaper on he'd go. We'd give up and put him back in disposable diapers and waited a year hoping he'd show more readiness signs. It just hasn't worked out.

How did you feel when you learned that your brother was declared toilet trained and would no longer be wearing diapers?

He has never really been totally potty trained despite the fact mom tried to train him for years and years.

Amy	18+	David	13	This really was never the case. Our plan was to start him with cloth diapers so he could feel his own wetness; then graduate him to training pants. I think we even tried Feel'n'Learns when he was smaller; but now we don't have that option. I don't think he ever made it to training pants. So, technically David has been in diapers around the clock all his life.

We were driving home from the dealership where mom had just gotten a new car and Jeff peed his pants (he was 7). She just calmly drove to the store, told us to wait in the car and came out with a package of Huggies. She then took off his pants and underwear and diapered him and told him he would be wearing diapers non-stop until he quit having wetting accidents in the day.

Amy	18+	David	13	Like I mentioned, David never made it past the cloth diaper stage. After a few days, we'd just decide to put him back into disposable diapers and just figured we'd try again in a year or so. We've never pushed him - we just went with the flow. I don't think it really matters whether or not David would always be in diapers - I think he's basically going to be a baby and have special needs all his life.

Amy	18+	David	13	I was always happy for him - it was like he was going to be a big boy. It just didn't work out and I feel sorry for him because I think he would be self-conscious about it. I think he tried so hard, but just couldn't get it. During potty training, we'd tell him that he could wear big boy pants if he stayed dry and that he was wearing special diapers to tell him when he was wet. We'd tell him that disposable diapers were for babies. He seemed to like that, but just could never catch on.
