TV Commercial for New Adolescent Sized Pampers Summary: It's a world where all boys at the age of 10 loose bladder control and have to go back to diapers for 2 or 3 years, until puberty sets in and they gradually regain control, enabling them to be toilet trained and weaned off of diapers. Since the 1960's, Pampers have sold diapers for boys up to 110-115 pounds. Now in the year 1983, Pampers are introducing its biggest diaper ever, new "Pampers Adolescent-Size", for boys over 110 pounds. Below is the first TV commercial for this great new diaper. FIRST COMMERCIAL: A soft-rock kind of a beat begins, and we see two boys of about 12 fully clothed and riding on the "Tilt-a-whirl" at an amusement park, looking like they're having the time of their life. The male pop singer begins to sing: "When you're old enough to spend the day at the park, you need a diaper that will last till dark, you need dryness to spare, you need Pampers." Next we see several men in a fishing boat in a large body of water, and a boy of at least 13, maybe even 14, reeling in a fishing line from over the side of the boat. He is dressed only in a shirt and a diaper. We hear the singer sing: "When you're old enough to fish all day with the men, it can take a while till you real 'em in, you need dryness to spare, you need Pampers." By the end of this scene the boy has reeled in a huge fish, and a man who looks like he could be the boy's dad catches it into a net. Then the man gives the boy a high five. The third scene is dominated by the voice of a male announcer talking, while the tune of the jingle we have just heard plays softly in the background. The announcer tells us that "Pampers new adolescent size diapers are bigger than Pampers large for boys," and then we see two identical twin boys who are the same size, at least 12 and a half, maybe 13, wearing nothing but their diapers. The boy on the left is wearing a "Pampers Boys Large" as the writing underneath him tells us, and the boy on the right is wearing a "Pampers Adolescent Sized", as the writing underneath of him tells us. The boy on the left, his diaper looks almost like low-rise briefs, and he pulls on the front of it trying to get it up a little higher. He has a frustrated look on his face. His brother to the right has a confident smile as he snaps the elastic waist shield of his diaper, which covers his navel. Then we see a rear shot focusing on the elastic leg gathers. The boy in the smaller diaper bends as a football is thrown to him near the ground. He misses the ball and then tries to unpinch the tight elastic leg gather that pinched him and caused him to miss the ball. While this is occurring, the announcer tells us that "see how this aspiring quarterback can't move as quickly as he needs to, and look what happens." His brother is thrown the ball in the same position, but the leg bands of his diaper move with him and he catches the ball. The announcer says: "but Pampers Adolescent Size allow his brother to move with freedom, comfort, and speed." Then the scene changes and we see a man's arm holding a large glass measuring container full of blue liquid, and he pours the liquid onto an open Pampers Adolescent sized diaper lying on the table. The announcer says: "but most important, Pampers Adolescent sized have the stay-dry lining that you have come to trust in other sizes, and they are the most absorbent Pampers ever, keeping boys dryer for longer, which is so important during those activities when they may have to wait to be changed." While he is saying this, the man who poured the liquid then places a dark colored paper blotter overtop of the wet diaper, then a naked boys bottom sits on the blotter for a second, gets up, and then we see that the paper stayed dry while the boy pressed down on it with all of his weight. In the last scene, the singer resumes with: "When you're old enough to go hiking with the pack, it can take a while till you make it back, you need dryness to spare, you need Pampers." Here we see an adult scout leader dressed in uniform with hiking shorts, and a pack of 12-13 year olds following behind, dressed like him except instead of shorts, they're wearing Pampers. Below is a size chart for knowing which size Pampers to get for your pre-pubescent and pubescent boys who lose bladder control beginning at age 10. Size Weight (pounds) -------------------------------- Small 50-75 Medium 70-90 Large 85-115 Adolescent 115 and up The front of a box of Pampers for boys has a watercolor drawing of an all-American-looking boy of about 11, carrying a fishing pole and with a dog running at his side. He is fully clothed. The back of the box has photos of boys in their Pampers, who are the age that corresponds to the size of the particular diapers in the box. Smalls have 10 year olds, Mediums have 11-12 year olds, Large have 12 year olds, and Adolescent Sized have 13 year olds. SECOND COMMERCIAL: Two boys are shooting baskets in the back yard. They are about 12 and a half or 13 years old, and both have on basketball tank tops and the style shorts that basketball players in the early 80's wore. The one boy tries to make a dunk shot, but just isn't quite tall enough to make it. Two grandfathers are watching the boys play, and they both offer to give Bobby a lift, so he can get the satisfaction of dunking the ball. The one grandfather grabs Bobby under his arms and the other grandfather picks him up by the bottom. The grandfather who picks him up by the bottom says: "Time-out." The other grandfather says, "what, are yah gettin too old to pick-up your grandson?" The first grandfather replies: "Too old my bottom, but his bottom's soakin wet." The second grandfather says, "he can't be wet, my son just changed him" - he feels his grandson's bottom and then says, "I guess he could." Bobby says: "I'm sick of always bein wet." The fathers of both boys are preparing the grill when they hear what's going on and come over. Bobby's dad says: "I can't believe you're wet again." He says to the other father, "can you take over the grill while I change him?" The other father says to Bobby's dad: "Let me change him. I think I know what his problem is, he's outgrown his diaper." Bobby's dad replies: "He wears the large size, and he just hasn't been successful yet when I've tried to train him." The other father replies: "Oh, I understand, Jimmy's not trained yet either, but I got him a bigger diaper that fits him great and doesn't leak." Jimmy appears carrying a box of new "Adolescent Sized Pampers." Bobby's dad reads the box out loud: "New Adolescent Sized Pampers, for boys over 110 pounds." Jimmy's dad takes one out of the box, while Bobby's dad grabs one of his sons' "Pampers Sized Large for Boys", and they hold the diapers next to each other. Bobby's dad says, "wow, they are bigger," and Jimmy's dad says: "they're just right for busy guys like Bobby and Jimmy who need extra protection." Jimmy chimes in: "Pampers Adolescent Sized Rock!" Bobby's dad says: "Well what are we waitin for, let's get you rockin too," as he takes the bigger Pamper from the other father and slaps it playfully against his son's back, as they walk away to get Bobby changed. The scene changes and a male announcer speaks while the mid-section of two boys appears on the screen. The boy on the left has written under him, "Pampers Large for Boys" and the boy on the right has written under him, "Pampers Adolescent Sized." The boy on the left has a diaper that droops at the waist. He tries to pull it up but it won't go any higher. The announcer says: "Compare the young man in the Large Sized Pampers to the young man in the New Adolescent Size. The boy in the large sized has gaps at both the waist and the legs, which can cause leaks." He bends over and gaps appear at both legs, because the diaper doesn't come down far enough. The boy's hand appears and he tries to cover the gaps, but his diaper just doesn't move far enough. The boy on the right, his diaper fits snugly around his navel, and he stretches his waist shield a little bit and it returns right to where it's supposed to be. Then he bends over and the elastic leg gathers completely cover both hips. While the boy on the right is doing his thing, the announcer says, "but the young man in New Adolescent sized Pampers doesn't have to worry about leaks. He can be confident that he'll stay dry through whatever activity is on his busy schedule. And just like all Pampers, the New Adolescent Sized has our famous stay-dry lining that keeps wetness in the padding away from skin." During this last sentence, we see an open Pamper on a table, and a guys arm pours a large cup full of blue liquid into the diaper, then he places a piece of blotter paper across the mid section of the wet diaper. A boy's bare bottom sits on it and then gets up, and we see that the paper that touched his skin is still dry. Then we return to the backyard scene, and it's starting to get dark. The two fathers are packing up the grill and the boys are shooting hoops again. Jimmy is still dressed in tank top and shorts, but Bobby is wearing only his tank top and an Adolescent Sized Pamper. The grandfather who had previously ended up with wet hands says to the boys: Let's see if Bobby can score a dunk shot before nightfall puts an end to this championship match." Both grandfather's resume their previous positions, and they pick Bobby up so that he can dunk the ball into the basket. He dunks the ball, and then the grandfather with bottom duty says: "Score, courtesy of New Adolescent Sized Pampers." The other grandfather says "Pampers rock!", and everyone laughs and slaps one another the high five.
THIRD COMMERCIAL: Summary: It's a world where all boys at the age of 10 loose bladder control and have to go back to diapers for 2 or 3 years, until puberty sets in and they gradually regain control, enabling them to be toilet trained and weaned off of diapers. Since the 1960's, Pampers have sold diapers for boys up to 110-115 pounds. Now in the year 1983, Pampers are introducing its biggest diaper ever, new "Pampers Adolescent-Size", for boys over 110 pounds. Below is the third TV commercial for this great new diaper, featuring the popular TV Psychologist, "Dr. Bill." ======================================================================= The commercial starts off with two 13-year-old boys hurrying down the basement stairs. The one boy says to the other, "let's hang out here for a while so dad doesn't find me and make me try to go again. Gotcha dude," the other boy replies. Then we see a man open the basement door part way, stick his head in the door and say: "Oh Kevin, it's time to try again." Both boys look at each other and roll up their eyes, then Kevin heads up the stairs. Next we see Kevin going by himself into a bathroom. He closes the door, unzips his jeans and attempts to urinate in the toilet. (Kevin's private area is not shown while this is happening). After a few seconds, we hear Kevin say to himself: "I don't need to go now," and he zips up his pants and walks over to the sink to wash his hands. While the water is running as he washes his hands, we suddenly see Kevin get this horrible look on his face. Then the camera focuses on Kevin's pant legs, and we see a big dark wet spot down the front of his jeans. Then we see Kevin run off yelling, "Dad!" Then we see the famous television psychiatrist, Dr. Bill, standing in a cozy looking living room. He says: "Are scenes like this all too common with you and your sons? Now anyone who watches my show knows that I'm not one to give into adolescents who don't want to learn responsibility; however, when it comes to re-toilet training boys, I believe that the boys themselves must be ready both physically and emotionally. Some boys retrain quicker than others, but if fathers, or anyone else push them before their bodies and their minds are ready, it's gonna cause a lot of unnecessary and harmful tension between them and the boys. When a boy is ready for toilet training, he will want to cooperate with you because he sees it as a necessary step toward growing up. If he's not ready, he'll see training as an inconvenience, as Kevin does. It's my belief that Kevin's dad should wait a while, and try training again when Kevin is more ready." (Next we see Kevin walking across his bedroom with the shirt he had on before and a well fitting disposable diaper on below.) Dr. Bill talks while the camera is focused on Kevin in his diaper. "It's for kids like Kevin that I'm so glad Pampers now has a bigger diaper. Pampers Adolescent Sized are designed for boys 110 pounds and well over, and will provide older boys with a great fit and the superior wetness protection they need until they're ready for toilet training. I should know, because I put them on my own son." (Dr. Bill is now shown standing next to his son with his left arm around him. The son is fully dressed in shirt and pants. In fact, he's the same boy who played Kevin's friend at the beginning of the commercial.) Now we see Kevin and his dad walk into the living room to join Dr. Bill and his son. Kevin is now dressed in beige-colored khaki pants, and he stands next to Dr. Bill at his right side. The commercial closes with Dr. Bill saying: "Toilet training will be much more successful and much more bearable for boys, and for their fathers and mentors, if we wait until they're ready. Until then, use Pampers Adolescent Sized diapers. Because our boys deserve Pampers dryness." (As Dr. Bill says "because our boys deserve Pampers dryness," he puts his right arm around Kevin and his left arm around his own son). THE END.
