The Story of David Mayter (2004)

Entry 11: The Day of Defeat (part one)

---

“Words cannot even begin to explain what I am feeling… no one will ever understand. But I kind of wish they did… so I knew what to do. But I think I have found out what to do… maybe… Maybe anyone reading this can give me some form of sympathy. But that probably will not happen.”

---

David sat on the couch, trying to relax like he was instructed by the doctor to do. It was far from a nice day outside; clouds were coving the sun like his pants were covering his diaper. It was definitely gray outside; it looked like it was going to rain any minute. But as he was flipping past the channels, he came across the local news, just in time for the weather’s five-day forecast.

“Storms have been blowing our way for the past few days, and finally have arrived early this morning. However, it’s not expected to rain until later on this evening. Unfortunately, after it starts raining, it’s going to be raining for a long time, folks. We’re expected not to see blue skies for a few days” the weather forecaster explained.

“Fantastic…” David sarcastically said to himself, continuing to flip through the various channels on TV.

“David, dinner’s ready” he heard his mother call.

“Alright, hold up…” he said, turning off the TV. He slowly (miserably) walked into the dining room, and sat down in an available chair.

David’s mother walked into the dining room, putting down a drainer filled with spaghetti. She handed him and gave herself an empty plate, and they both began to cover their plate with food…

“So… how are you feeling?” his mother asked.

“I’m uh… fine… you?” David asked, not really looking to his mother, but to his plate.

“I’m okay… just concerned about you” his mother said, eating some of her food.

“…Why?” he asked curiously.

“I don’t know… you just don’t seem to be acting like you were a few weeks ago…” his mother said.

“Yeah well… some people change” he responded.

“Well… I just want to honestly know… if this has anything to do with… Will” his mother said.

David swallowed hard on hearing Will’s name…

“No… not really…” David responded.

“…are you sure?” his mother asked.

“Yes…” David said.

“Okay…” his mother finished, continuing to eat.

There was a short silence between them, the only sounds in that whole apartment was the sounds of their forks hitting their plates…

”…Mom…” David silently said.

“Yes?” she asked.

“…How did…” David began to say, hesitating the last few words, as he began facing his mother, taking his eyes from his plate.

“…How did Will die?” David finished.

His mother’s eyes widened a bit as she swallowed the food she had put in her mouth….

“W-What?” his mother asked.

“How did William die?” he asked again, this time not wasting any time with hesitation.

“I… don’t know” his mother said, looking at her plate like David was a few moments ago.

“Yes you –“

“No… I don’t” his mother said, interrupting David.

“Mom… I’m 14 years old. Will has been dead for 2 two years now, and I do not know why. I really think I have a right to know how he died!” David said.

“David… please don’t make me say it, because it is really, really… just… I really don’t want to say it because it really angers me” his mother said.

David was confused, but at the same time, under stood her completely. David didn’t argue…

“…Okay…” he said understandingly.

---

David sat in his room, on his computer as usual. This time, however, he was writing his story. He pulled out William’s Final Journal out from under the monitor, and opened the page with the bookmark that David had put there, and continued writing on the computer what William had written in the journal so long ago…

---

I guess it is a bit of a possibility that it can happen. Maybe… I will ask her first about the diapers… because I seriously doubt that she will allow me to have pacifiers and baby bottles lying around the house and stuff… but maybe she will let me wear the diapers and stuff… who knows? But… my mom is kinda weird… she might not let me. Oh well… 50-50 chance… I just hate living in darkness about my secrets and stuff… alright… I’ll ask her tonight”

---

David stopped writing there: he had reached the end of the entry. He looked up at the date, and what he saw kind of made him queasy… the date was the last day David ever saw him again. It made him nuisance to look at the date, and know that less than a week after that, he would no longer be alive. David sighed, licked his finger, and placed it on the page, about to turn it….

Suddenly the phone rang, making him jump a bit. He took his finger off the page, and took the phone from the base, and put it up to his head…

”Hello” David asked.

“David…” he heard from the receiving end. It was Jason, and he sounded desperate.

“What?” David asked, holding the grudge.

“David, please… what I did was wrong, and I am sorry… but… I’ve been thinking. You can stay mad at me if you want, but William’s birthday is… tomorrow…” Jason said.

David thought for a few moments… Jason was right. David thought that exact thing, and now Jason was saying it. David sighed, shook his head, close his eyes, and sat back into his chair, still holding the phone up to his head.

“Dave…?” Jason quietly said into the phone.

“Yeah… I’m here…” David said into the phone, with a calmer tone of voice.

David clicked a few things on his computer, close WordPerfect after saving his work. He shut a few browser windows.

“I mean…” Jason began, saying a few things…

David wasn’t really listening; he practically knew what Jason was saying anyways. David leaned forward again, and boringly clicked on a few things; he went through his personal files, not really paying attention to where he was going on his computer. Suddenly something caught his interest… it was a file. He opened it… What he saw when it opened, literally made him wet his diaper. He dropped the phone onto his lap, and he sat back into his chair. His mouth was wide open from surprise, and for the first time in a long, long time, he smiled. But not from happiness… it was a cynical smile. He picked up the phone, once he came to his senses.

“Jason” he said, interrupting Jason (who was still talking, surprisingly).

“…Yeah?” Jason asked.

“I’m willing to forgive you, you’re right. But I want to show you something, something I was meaning to keep a secret… but I decided to… I’ll just come over your house” David confidently explained.

“Really? I mean, yeah sure! Come on over!” Jason said.

“Alright man… I’ll be there soon…” David said with an extremely sadistic smile, and an immensely evil tone of voice.

They both hung up the phone, and David began to cackle loudly in his room. He stood up, and walked away from the computer… because on the monitor… was a full-size image of Sven… wearing nothing but a diaper… with a big cheesy smile on his face.

---

David ran down the sidewalk, trying to get to Jason’s house as quickly as possible. Flashes of everything terrible that had happened to him were fueling him to his destination. The sky was grey with clouds, and the winds were slowly picking up more and more as the storm blew in, but this did not stop him. He felt in his pocket, to make sure that the picture was still in there. After his had confirmed that it had not left the security of his pocket, his smiled once again.

“This is the ultimate revenge… this is the ultimate payback… this is the ultimate recoil in Sven’s plan… this is the ultimate ender” David thought to himself as he ran down the empty sidewalk.

The atmosphere was strange as he ran down the sidewalk. The street he was running down, there was no one on the sidewalk, no one on the road, and no birds in the sky… it was pretty silent. Nothing but the sound of the wind…

David eventually had reached Jason’s house. He dominantly walked up the steps onto the porch, and rung the doorbell. It wasn’t more than a few seconds that Jason came to the door, greeting David.

“Hey man!” Jason said happily.

“Hey!” David said with a sly smirk on his face.

“What did you want to show me?” Jason asked.

David’s smile grew larger as he put his hand in his pocket. And it was as though it was slow motion as he dug through his pocket. Finally, David pulled the picture of Sven, wearing nothing but a diaper, out of his pocket. He slowly unfolded it, looked it at the picture, and then handed the paper to Jason…

Jason curiously examined it, at first not really knowing what he was looking at it. But it soon hit him like a punch in the face. HIS eyes widened in disbelief, and he almost dropped it out of his hands from amazement.

“David! What the hell… I mean … OH MY GOD” Jason said, examining every inch of the picture, looking at Sven with the diaper wrapped around him, and starring at the gleeful smile he was wearing, too.

---

It had been about 15 minutes of Jason just staring at it. David didn’t even expect him to be THIS thrilled by the picture.

“Geez – he’s like me the first time I saw another kid in diapers” David thought.

“Dude… what is… where… I mean… dude…” Jason said, obviously mind-blown by it.

“Well dude, don’t tell Sven you saw this. And don’t hint at it or anything… I mean, I guess this is how he thought of that stupid rumor about ME wearing diapers. Meanwhile, look at him. He actually admitted this to me a while back, when we were friends… he’s got problems and stuff. Not something worth making fun of him over… know what I mean?” David lied, practically mirroring the story all together.

“But HOW did you get this?!” Jason demanded to know.

“Oh well… some times he’d come over my house, and I let him… you know… wonder around in a diaper and stuff he wanted to.” David said, nervously choosing his words.

“…ugh… why?” Jason asked.

“Dunno… it’s not like he was walking around naked… didn’t bother me, none of my business” David said, shrugging.

”Man this pisses me off… you let him walk around your house in DIAPERS… and you kept his trust… and he still fucks you over... and for no reason!” Jason said in an angry tone of voice.

“Whoa dude, speak of The Devil…” David said, looking across the street.

Jason looked across the street, staring at what David was staring at. Sven was walking down the street. His face was a bit bruised, like David’s. Plus, he walked with a limp, and his arm was a bit cut.

“Holy crap dude, what did you do to him?” David asked, amazed.

“Bah… just punched him back, then threw him and stuff…” Jason said with a sarcastic tone of voice.

Sven had heard them talking, and looked at them from across the street. He gave them both an evil smile back; obviously smiling at David’s bruised face that Ryan had given him, only a few days ago.

“Nice shiner!” Sven yelled to them.

“Yeah? Why don’t you come over here and say that to my face!” David yelled.

“Because your shit-in diaper smells too bad!” Sven yelled.

David’s rage was building up quickly…

“HIS diaper?! Man, don’t play that anymore! You’re one to talk!” Jason yelled.

“What the heck is that supposed to mean?” Sven said, instantly losing his annoying smile, replacing it with a very serious expression.

“Yeah man, I know ALL about you. David showed me that picture! Here it is, right here!” Jason said, suddenly hanging up the picture, for Sven to see.

Sven struggled to see exactly what was on the small piece of paper, from across the street. But he knew he wouldn’t like it… so he began to walk across the street, towards Jason’s house.

“Jason, no!” David yelled, pulling the paper out of his hand.

As much as David wanted to return the favor about Sven… he couldn’t He remembered Ryan, and he remembered Sven pulling down his pants… he was honestly intimidated. Suddenly he felt the paper rip from his hand, now in Sven’s.

David looked over, and saw Sven standing next to him, gazing at the picture of him in the diaper. His expression was one of complete disgust, rage, and disbelief.

Sven didn’t give any thought, any warning, or any sign, as he suddenly jumped at David, grabbing him hard. It happened so quickly that David actually had no way to stop Sven, since he had the element of surprise. Suddenly David felt himself fly back, against the rail of the porch. Suddenly he looked at Sven, who was rushing at him full speed with his arms held out…

Sven shoved him hard on the shoulders, which actually made him fly over the railing, falling off the porch, and landing hard on the ground, several feet below, landing flat on his back.

“Oh FUCK!” he heard Jason yell, as he watched Sven suddenly jump off the porch, almost landing on top of David.

David tried to get up, but Sven suddenly took his leg, and kicked David hard in the stomach, stunning him. Suddenly Sven kneeled down, with a look of uncontrollable fury and rage. He then took his hands, and wrapped it around David’s neck, strangling him.

“YOU PIECE OF SHIT! I’LL KILL YOU!” he screamed as he strangled David.

David struggled as he felt his neck being squeezed by Sven’s hands. He reached up to grab Sven’s neck, and squeeze his neck too, but his hands were too weak from Sven’s kick in the stomach, and his strangling David.

David panicked, and began to resist, by trying to get Sven off of him, anyway possible. But it was impossible; he was too overcome by Sven. Suddenly he felt THE feeling… the feeling of death. He felt his body numb as though somebody had injected doses of morphine. He felt like he was sinking into the ground… like he was falling out of his body. He began to watch everything like a ghost, like he was watching TV. He ‘watched’ Sven holding onto him, and he watched Jason running towards Sven. Everything was in slow motion as he watched Jason lift his foot up and behind him, like he was about to kick a football… only the football was Sven’s head. But just as he was about to hit Sven… everything went black…

---

“DAVID!” he heard Jason yelling.

“DAVID, ARE YOU OKAY?!” he heard Jason yelling, a second time.

David suddenly jumped up, opening his eyes, coughing uncontrollably. His throat hurt, his nose burned, and his eyes were dry. He rolled over onto all fours, and looked at the ground, coughing wildly.

“David! Are you okay!?” He heard Jason yell once again.

David coughed several more times, trying to get his breath back. It was a few minutes until David could make a full breath, but eventually, he recovered enough to slowly rise back up onto his feet. His mind was racing, yet was moving in slow motion from confusion. He ran his finger over his upper lip, and looked at it… it was covered in blood.

“David!” he heard again.

He looked over at Jason. He was sitting in the fetal position, with his head sticking up, looking at David.

“Are you… okay?” Jason asked.

David’s head hurt, and his mind was in a daze. His throat burned and his vision was unfocused. But he nodded a yes, even though he was unsure that he was.

“How are you feeling?” Jason asked, with a strange jitter in his voice.

“…Haggard…” is the only thing he could think of, well actually it was the only thing he could say. His voice was scratchy and it hurt to talk. In truth, he wanted to say he felt like he had just woken up from a massive drinking binge that had lasted for weeks.

“…I thought you would… Sven ran away.” Jason said.

“…Listen man, we need to… talk” Jason said with a quiet tone of voice.

David was unsure that he liked what he heard… the last time he heard “We need to talk”, Sven was turning into his worst enemy.

“…About what?” David asked, nervous.

But suddenly, David turned, and his pant leg tapped his leg. But what he felt was ice cold, and wet. David slowly looked down at his pants… and what he found… what that half of his pants were soaked. The long, and cold wet spot went from his crotch, down to his right ankle.

“David…” Jason said again.

David was speechless. His heart didn’t sink into his stomach… instead, it shattered. The feeling was actually painful, as he realized that the gig was up. Jason knew, and now, he too was no longer going to be his friend. He knew it.

”I know about it now” Jason said.

”…Shut up…” David said.

”David, calm down” Jason said.

“David, why didn’t you tell me?” he asked.

“…I have to go…” David said with a chilling tone of voice. He turned around, and began walking towards his house, just as a raindrop fell onto his shoulder. Then, another… until it began to rain around him.

“This is it” he thought.

”It’s over”

---

David walked into his house, soaked with rain. It was dark out now, since it was sunset. He walked up his steps, and walked into his room. He didn’t bother turning on the light… he didn’t care to. He slowly, and fell onto his bed… and just laid there.

”What did I do to deserve this?” he thought to himself.

”I thought I was doing everything right… I thought I was good… but bad things keep happening to me. I guess I was never meant to have any friends… my best one dies… my other two betray me, and now Jason is probably going to be like Sven… what did I do?” he kept thinking.

He kept thinking for a few minutes, each moment getting more and more of that certain numbing sensation. Suddenly he, he stood up, and opened his door. He walked down the hall, and began aiming towards the steps…

”I am nothing” he thought.

He continued walking towards the steps, this time, tears running down his face.

”This is pain… real pain. Something a few amount of people feel.” He thought as he arrived at the edge of the steps.

He looked down the staircase. There were 20 steps easy. Steep, and narrow…

”…let me end it…” he said.

Suddenly he fell forward, letting himself fall… ending everything.

---

Suddenly David jumped up, screaming. He was back in his room, untouched. It was dark, and now, it was night. It was deathly silent… nothing but the sound of his computer.

”What happened?” he asked himself.

”Was it a dream? Was EVERYTHING a dream?” he asked himself. He stood up… but to his disappointment… his clothes were still very wet from the rain.

”…Figures…” he said.

David lay there for a few minutes, just letting it sink in. He knew what happened… he remembered everything. He still felt practically sick from it… but he tried to not cry. Suddenly it hit him… Will. His birthday was tomorrow. He had promised Will, that no matter what, he’d finish the story for him.

He stood up, pulled his computer chair out from under his desk, and opened up Word. He pulled out Will’s journal, and opened it. He starred at the notebook page, and turned to the next page, at the beginning of William’s journal entry. But when he turned it… he found something. Something odd… something scary. There was a folded piece of paper that was stuck between the pages of Will’s journal. David looked at it for a moment, and looked at the journal. The entry was marked a few days after David and William last saw each other… He unfolded the piece of paper, and began to read it. But nothing, NOTHING, could prepare him for what he was about to read…
