“I was always the loner when I was littler. In school, I’d be that quiet kid in the corner who, no one knew about, and so, they wouldn’t acknowledge. I had no friends, and was getting pretty miserable. But according to the way things have turned out now, that’s the happiest I’d been in a while...” – David Mayter

David sat in his room, alone…in the center of his room, in the center of the floor. The blinds were closed, his desk lamp was on. It was about dawn. The exact time was unknown, as it has been many hours since he looked. It was very dark where the sun wasn’t coming through, or where the desk lamp wasn’t lighting. But David didn’t bother turning on the ceiling light. He didn’t care to. He had a much bigger thing on his mind. David breathed in deeply, and wiped away several tears that were going down his cheeks. Then he finally looked around himself. Around him were papers. Notebook papers, just surrounding him everywhere, but their contents were unknown. However, he looked over at a notebook, sitting in front of him with a pencil sitting by it. He sobbed once or twice, until he finally leaned in to read what was on the open page.

”Writing is a passion for me…it is the way I let out my anger, let off steam. Paper is also a good way to wipe tears from my bloodshot eyes; at least it has been for the past few days. This really could be the last entry I write for a while. I think I may have snapped…if these journal entries that I am about to read don’t remind me how much I cherish life itself, I may end up doing something very drastic…something I don’t want to do. I may hurt myself…or someone else…”

David then wiped a few tears from his face, and shut the book. He quickly sobbed, and opened it up at the beginning, revealing a page filled with writing…

 Entry 01: Cold Feet

“So I did it. I finally did it! I managed to build enough guts to buy one…but unfortunately, I could only build so much guts to do one thing…”

”Okay, thank you” a kid said to the cashier.

“No problem, have a great day” the cashier replied to the kid politely.

The kid took his bag, whipped it over his shoulder, and quickly left the store. Like a great hammer, the sun beat onto the kid as he walked across the black cement of the parking lot, towards his bike. But half way there, he quickly turned back towards the building. The sun glaring in his eyes made him squint quite a bit as the kid suddenly began jogging towards the side of the building, towards a pile of dirt, rock and debris in a lot beside the store. Once there, however, he quickly took the bag from his shoulder, and dropped it to his feet. He checked around, and looked towards the main road, making sure no one saw him go behind the dirt mound, out of sight from the main street. Once he had confirmed the coast was clear, he suddenly took off a backpack that he was wearing. He checked again cautiously for people, before finally putting the bag inside of his backpack, zipped his pack, and whipped it back onto his back. Looking out from the mound, he once again saw the coast was clear of people walking. Then quickly, he jogged from the mound towards his bike…

He quickly hopped onto his bike, and began pedaling down the side walk. From there, he passed a few blocks quickly, crossing the roads without stopping, since it was rare to find a car going through them. But finally, he had reached a main road, and had to stop and wait for a crossing guard.

“Hey David” the female crossing guard said as she walked into the crosswalk.

“…hey Mrs. Rolland” the kid, or ‘David’, said to the crossing guard.

”How’s everything?” Mrs. Rolland asked as she continued walking.

”Their good…how about you?” David asked.

“Ha-ha, just working…what did you get at the store?” Mrs. Rolland asked as she put her hands out.

“…not too much, just some pop and stuff…” David replied with hesitation.

“Oh that’s nice…well, have a nice day!” Mrs. Rolland said as she stopped traffic for David.

“Thanks, you too” Davis said as he road across the road quickly.

---

Finally, he was home. His bike was parked out back, and he was finally inside of his house, walking up his front steps.

“Hey David!” a woman said at the top of the steps.

“Hey mom” David said shyly on his way up.

“What’s up?” she asked as he walked on by.

“Not much…” he said as he sat down on a nearby chair.

“How was school?” his mom asked.

“Like school: it sucked” he admitted.

“Well that’s no good” his mom said. “Have any homework?” she asked.

“Nope, not much at all” he said.

“Okay, well, get dressed and you can go outside” she said.

“Heh, okay, thanks” he said.

David then quickly got up, and walked into his room. He glanced around his room once his door was shut, and finally double checked to see if his door was locked. Suddenly he launched over to his bed, and tossed his backpack onto his bed. He quickly unzipped the backpack, and pulled out the familiar plastic-bag. Then finally he looked around one final time, when he finally pulled out what was inside the bag. He glared at the contents, a small package with the words imprinted on the front: ‘Baby King Pacifiers’

He starred at them for a few moments, until finally snatching them off of his bed, and opened them up, and laid the three pacifiers onto his nearby computer desk, and starred at them. There was a blue one, a green one, and a red one, each the same size, and the same shape. He looked at them for a few moments, until finally snagging the blue one. He slowly walked over to the mirror on his wall, and starred at himself in the mirror as he slowly put the pacifier into his mouth.

---

David quickly approached the familiar, to him, door of his friend’s house. He was of course outside now, it was still hot and dry out there. The sun was shining and there wasn’t a cloud in the sky. Quickly he knocked on the jade-colored beat up wood door, and took a few steps back. It was only a few short moments until the sounds of footsteps began from behind the door, and then, the jade-colored beat up wood door swung open, revealing another kid, about the same age as David.

“Hey man, come on up” the kid said to David.

“Heh, alright man. On my way” David replied to the kid.

Quickly David walked into the house, past the kid, and then up a flight of steps. Eventually he reached a living room, and from there, David instantly sat down onto the couch.

“So what do you want to do?” the kid asked David.

“The heck if I know, it’s all you” David replied.

“Hey Sven, can you get me the dishes?” a woman asked from the nearby kitchen.

The kid, or ‘Sven’, sighed deeply, and quickly got up and picked up a few dishes off the coffee table in front of the couch. Then after he got them, he carried them out of the room. Shortly after that, however, he returned empty handed.

“We could go to the park…ride bikes…uh…go in the woods…” David suggested as Sven sat down next to him.

“Yeah…alright, let’s go. Mom, we’re heading out!” Sven said, yelling a bit to his mother.

“Alright, be careful.” Sven’s mom said from the kitchen.

“I will” Sven said as he and David walked back down the steps, and eventually out the door.

From there, the two grabbed their bikes, and began riding down the sidewalk. The two turned a few bends until they finally began talking…

---

The two sat now, on a fallen tree, which laid over a steady running crick. They were obviously in the woods now. It was much later into the day now, almost sunset. The temperature had grown cooler now. The two chatted as friends, talking of many miscellaneous subjects, like videogames, movies, BMX, etc: just small talk. But suddenly David changed his attitude, changing the subject completely.

“Sven…we’re real cool friends, right?” David asked, sounding a tad concerned.

“Yeah…I’d like to think so. Why? What’s up?” Sven asked.

David was silent for a short while, as though he was thinking of something hard.

“…Oh, nothing. Just wondering .You just have to ask these things sometimes…you know?” David admitted.

Sven looked at him confused.

“Yeah…uh…I guess…” Sven said confused.

“…Yeah…alright, so what we were talking about?” David said, totally changing the subject yet again.

---

“So I got cold feet…again. If only I could tell him…but something keeps me from doing it. Don’t know what. He said we’re good friends, and I’d love to believe that. But he’s weird sometimes, and I guess that’s what keeps me from admitting it to him…my secret that is. Friends keep secrets…and I’d just feel so much better if I could tell him. Anyways…I got my pacifiers today like I had planned. Glad this time I didn’t freak out like when I got my bottle. I kept it cool, thank God. As a matter of fact, I’m sucking one right now. Feels so good, the latex nipple inside of my mouth I mean. I could suck on this thing all day. Really, I could. But, I know that I cannot…I hate hiding my feelings about things…when I have an opinion; I am usually one to express it. To hell with everyone else, I mean if they don’t like it, fuck them. Everyone has their opinions, their feelings, and they have every right to express it…alright…I’ll stop here. Useless babbling. It’s about midnight here, and I need sleep…so I’m going to end this entry here. Tomorrow, I’m going to try telling him. Really, I’m going to tell him this time…”
