to feel that his or her work is no good, but a few caring words from someone

I can say to her is, thank you Linda.
It was a long week. It was even a longer Friday. The only good thing was that a one week vacation lay ahead. This was the first vacation in the last two years. The last one was just before his wife and mother of their two sons was killed by a drunk driver on her way to work. So the time off was well needed.
The school year had ended a week earlier. The father, Mike had called home earlier that day to let his sons Ken and Greg, know that he would see them Saturday morning. Because he would be working late tonight so that three of them could go on vacation.
As Mike drove home at nine o’clock on that Friday night he thought to himself that his sons would be surprised to see him.
When he got home the front of the house was dark and it was only nine thirty at night, and his sons were to be at home. Mike parked the car and went into the house heading for the master bedroom. On his way to the bedroom he heard water running in the second bathroom. The door to the bathroom was half open, as he turned into the bathroom he saw his two sons in the shower.
The two boys did not see their father standing in the doorway, in almost total shock.
After a few seconds Mike stepped back into the hall. He turned and rested his back on the hall wall just next to the bathroom door, just out of the sight of the boys. He was thinking about what he should do, because now he had caught them red handed. A few weeks earlier he had found used diapers in the trash and had asked both his sons about them. They said they did not know any thing about them, but now, he knows because he had seen them and the boys in the bathroom.
At that moment a scream that just about stopped his heart was ringing thought out the house, in front of him stood his eldest son Ken. Ken was naked with mouth wide open and with eyes as big as dinner plates and the proof in his hands. The other son, Greg also came thought the bathroom door and stopped dead in his tracks.
The father, a calm individual, waited for his heart to restart, and long enough that the two sons knew they were busted big time. Just like the time the tree came through the roof from them building the tree house.
Ken started to speak.
The father just looked at them and said "Go to your rooms and stay there until I get you. Do not say any thing to me now, just go." With that said the sons went slowly to their rooms.
Mike went to car, to drive and think about what he should do with them. At this point Mike wanted to make sure that cool heads prevail and not rash words with a mix of hurt feelings.
After an hour or so of driving around, Mike stopped at a red light and was looking around and saw a 24 hour drug store, then it hit him. If my sons want to be babies so be it. They will be babies for the next week. I am on vacation for a week and I can take care of them and their needs. I did it when they were young I should be able to do it now.
So Mike turned the car into the parking lot of the drug store, parked the car and walked in to the store. Inside he got a cart and went to the baby section. He picked up the following items: baby oil, lotion, powder, diaper rash cream, wipes and two three-packs of bottles. He then moved on to check the size of the diapers. He knew that the real baby diapers did not fit either of his two sons, as he had witnessed tonight. In the search to find some that would fit, a store clerk asked if she could help him find what he was looking for? He told her that he needed diapers larger than what was in the baby section. She pointed to the junior and adult section and said he would find them in there.
The two walked over to that section, Mike pushing the cart. He saw the size that would fit both of his boys. The clerk started to ask questions like how heavy of wetter is the person? Will the person be messing in them. Mike answered the questions and the clerk pointed to a very thick disposable diaper. Mike picked up three bags of the disposable diapers and placed them into the cart and headed to the check out.
In working the long hours he had not gotten to the bank and only had a ten dollar bill on him. The check out clerk was the same woman that had been helping him. She smiled and said that Visa or Master card is accepted, so out came his credit card to pay for all the items in the cart. Before the sales clerk totaled his bill she asked him if he would need any disposable under pads and/or waterproof sheets or any thing else for the person he was caring for. I one split second he said yes to the under pads and they were added to his bill, and the clerk went and got them for him. Mike had forgotten how much baby items cost and was a little taken back by the total. As Mike waited for the credit card to clear, he started to wonder how he would go about putting his plan into action.
Being short on cash he headed home with his surprise for his two new little baby boys. The other part would have to wait until he got to the bank.
Arriving home he carried the items from his shopping spree in to the house and set them down in the family room. He took out the bottles and went to the kitchen to wash them and then filled two of the bottles with milk.
From the kitchen Mike walked to Ken’s bedroom. As he got to the door he heard his son crying, a very muffled cry, he opened the door and the son was face down on the bed head in the pillow.
"I have one question to ask you before I pass down your punishment. Who started it, you or your brother?" Mike asked.
The son looked at his father with red swollen eyes and said "me" in voice that would fit a mouse, with that the son started crying very hard. Mike said that he would be back after he had talked to Greg, as he left he closed the door to the room behind him.
Mike went over to Greg’s bedroom. Greg’s room was dark. Mike turned on the light and saw that Greg had fallen off to sleep. Mike woke up his sleeping son and asked the same question. Greg also answered with "me" with that Mike said "Get out of bed."
Greg got up and was shaking now with fear. At no time had their father ever hit either of them, but this was the fear of the unknown, fear of questions, the fear that life as Greg knew it would end.
Mike looked at his son and said in a tone of voice that was not to be questioned "Take off your PJ’s, ring and watch I want you to look like the day you were born, in short naked."
The son did as he was told as if he had a choice in the matter. Mike watched his son carry out the order and then took his hand.
Greg started to explain that it was something they would never do again and Mike said "The time for talk is coming up and I will be doing the talking. You have no voice now." With that, Mike lead Greg by the hand to Ken’s room. Mike opened the door and told Ken to take off any rings and his watch and come to the doorway. Ken sleeps in the nude with only his class ring and a watch on. Ken did as he was told. Mike told Ken to take Gregs hand. Ken and Greg were slow in taking hands but did as ordered.
Mike lead them in to the family room and the boys saw the bags sitting on the floor but could not see what was inside of the bags. Mike told the boys sit on the couch, and the boys did so dropping the hand holding.
Almost at the same time, both of the boys started to plead their case in hopes of a lighter punishment. Mike stood facing his sons and listened for about two minutes as both boys tried to plead for a lighter punishment. Mike closed his eyes and the boy's voices fell silent as they knew that this was judgment time and they had been found guilty. Guilty, as the time the tree coming through the roof of the house, from them building a tree house in the old tree in the back yard. That time they had to pay to get the house fixed.
Mike opened his eyes and turned and walked to one of the bags and started pulling out the oil, lotion and powder setting each item on the floor. Both of the boys gasp as the baby items were placed on the floor. He then opened the second bag and opened the under pads without taking then out of the paper bag. He reached in and pulled out two pads.
"NO." Both boys shrieked in such a high pitch that it was painful to hear them.
With the under pads in hand Mike turned around and looked at his sons' faces that were white and another part was erect. As he unfolded the pads, he started talking to both of the sons.
"I asked you both the same question" he said "and you both told me the same answer. So then the punishment must be the same. And since you both want to be babies, and wear diapers, well this is your lucky day or should I say your lucky week. Your punishment is to be treated like babies until next Sunday. You will do every thing in your diapers, eat, sleep, wet and mess. You will not change yourself. I will change you. And if find you without a diaper on or that you used the bathroom and not your diaper, I will tie you in your bed for the rest of the time."
Mike pointed to Ken and said, "On the pad face down", and pointed to one of the two pads. Ken did as ordered. Mike looked at the Greg and said, "You do the same."
When both boys were face down on the pads, Mike picked up the baby oil and applied it to both of their bottoms and then did the same for the powder. He then went over to the third bag and got out two diapers. Mike placed one diaper next to Greg, and opened up the other one. Mike placed it on the floor next to Ken and had him roll over on to the diaper. Mike used the lotion and powder on Ken’s front side and then pulled the diaper in to place and set the tapes. Mike was surprised at how fast Ken was diapered, a skill that had not been used in a long time. Mike then finished up Greg and told his baby sons to stay on the floor.
As Mike got up to go to the kitchen he saw that both of the boys' faces were bright red with embarrassment. Mike went to the kitchen and got the two bottles of milk and headed back to the family room. Mike put a bottle in the mouth of each son. "Now, daddy's baby boys drink your bottles, then off to bed." Mike said in a low soft voice.
The bottles were emptied about the same time. Greg was first to start to stand up to go to bed. Mike looked at Greg and said, "Babies do not walk, they crawl on hands and knees." Greg and Ken got the point real fast. The boys started crawling to their bedrooms. Mike picked up the under pads and followed them to the bedrooms to place the a pad on their beds just in case the diaper leaked.
Mike then kissed each of his babies goodnight, then turned off the lights, closed and locked each of the bedroom doors. The locks on the door had been turned around so that they would be locked into their room.
Mike then went and cleaned up the family room and moved the baby things to in front of his sons' bedroom doors before he went to bed.
Saturday
The morning sun was coming through the window right on to Mike’s face. It was about eight a.m., and Mike needed to get up or he would wet the bed. So Mike did his morning things before checking on his baby boys.
As Mike went to Ken’s door he stopped and said to himself, "I would be a bad father if my baby boy would need a diaper changing and I did not have a diaper handy." So Mike picked up some of the items that he bought last night and went into Ken’s room.
Ken was sitting on the pad on his bed with the top sheet folded back. Mike could see that Ken had wet his diaper and really needed his diaper changed. Mike told Ken to lie down and to let daddy change his diaper.
Ken said in a shy voice "Before you do that, can we talk about this ... and how embarrassing it is ... to me." Mike sat down on the bed and looked at his son and said, "I asked you about the diapers in the trash before and you lied to me about them. Then last night I came home to find you and your brother in diapers, in the bathroom and you were not embarrassed until you saw me. Now that it is in the open, and I want to take care of you. Now you don’t want to wear diapers. From the look of things you do." Ken agreed that he had lied about the diapers in the trash but he was terrified of what Mike would do or say. Ken also let his dad know that yes he did like diapers because it reminded him of the good times with mom. Mike told Ken that he too missed their mom and things in life are not always the way we want them. Mike then told Ken not to be embarrassed about having his father take care of him, and that he should just lie back down and let his daddy change him.
With that Ken laid back and let his daddy change his wet diaper. When Mike was done changing Ken, Mike lightly patted the front of Ken’s diaper and Ken’s face turned red and the white diaper started turning a light shade of yellow.
"That’s a good boy." Said Mike.
Mike changed Ken again.
"Thanks dad." Ken said in a whisper.
Mike looked at Ken and smiled, then sent Ken off to the family room as daddy was going to check on Greg.
Mike stocked up on the items that he would need to take care of Greg. Mike then opened the bedroom door to find Greg doing the potty dance to keep from wetting himself.
"I got to go, please let me get to the bathroom!" said Greg.
"Do it in your diaper," said Mike.
Greg’s face went white and the word fear appeared. Greg had taken it off because he did not want to be treated like a baby. Mike knew from Greg’s face that the two of them had a problem, and that Greg had not done as he was told. Greg could not hold it any longer and started to pee. Mike took the diaper and held it in place as Greg went.
Greg and his dad did not get along well. Greg was very close to his mother and always seems to pick a fight with his dad. Greg was about twenty months younger than Ken.
Greg at a very young age learned how to control people and get them to do his will. Mike had it this time, fight or no fight, Greg was going to do as he had been told. Mike for the first time ever yelled at Greg in the heat of the moment. Greg told his father to go some place and Mike hit the roof. Before Greg knew what had happen he was over his father knee and his bottom stung from his father’s hand hitting it once. Greg told is father to go do something very bad.
Mike had spanked Greg a total of five times before Greg started to cry. Mike then stood Greg up and took off his wet PJ’s and set about getting Greg diapered.
Greg was very mad at his dad for what he had just done to him, the total embarrassment of the spanking and being back in a diaper. With a very sore bottom that needed to be rubbed. Mike left the room and locked the door on the way out. Mike went to the kitchen to get breakfast ready as he passed Ken
"Oh daddy wet pants." Said Ken.
Mike looked at Ken and Ken said, "Sorry I said that."
Mike went and changed before he got them their breakfast bottle of milk. Mike gave one bottle to Ken as he went to Greg’s room with the other bottle. Mike stopped at the door and took two deep breaths before going in. Mike put the bottle on the night stand next to Greg’s bed as Greg lay on the bed facing the wall.
Mike picked up the wet PJ’s and told Greg that his bottle was on the night stand and he would be back to give Greg a bath. Greg did not say a word. Again the bedroom door was locked when Mike left the room.
Mike took the wet items to the laundry room and placed them in the washer.
Mike then went to the second bathroom to get the bath ready for the kids. The bathroom still showed signs from last night. Mike decided to leave the items from last night there for today. Mike filled the tub to the half way with warm water.
Mike then went to Greg’s room as he was going first. "It is time for your bath, lets go." Mike said. Greg looked at his dad with red swollen eyes and asked "Why did you hit me?" Greg did not move, he just waited for an answer. Mike knew that the question was valid and needed to be answered. Mike sat down on the end of bed and placed his hand on Greg’s leg. Greg’s body went stiff. "I don’t know why...maybe the fact that we test the bounds of how far can we go before the other person blows up." Mike said "Today we both went too far." Greg looked at his father and stated that had not hit is dad. Mike looked at Greg and shook his head in agreement. Mike then asked, "Why did you say what you did to me?" Now Greg was faced with the same type of question that he had asked his dad, and had no answer as to why.
Mike then told Greg about the talk that he and Ken had earlier that morning. Greg did not seem to catch the meaning behind it.
"Lets get you cleaned up, so we can get breakfast." said Mike. Greg got out of the bed and headed to the bathroom and Mike followed behind. Greg stopped dead at the bathroom door. Mike almost walked over him. Greg saw that the only thing different from last night was that the tub had water in it. Greg saw his father standing behind him in the bathroom mirror. Greg hung is head and said "Are you going to give me a bath every day of this punishment." Mike softly answered, "Yes." Mike placed his hands on Greg’s shoulders and started to push him through the doorway to the bath tub.
Mike had Greg step into the tub and face him so that he could remove Greg’s diaper, but the warm water around Greg’s feet and legs had caused Greg to start peeing in his diaper. Mike waited until Greg was done before the diaper came off.
Mike had Greg sit down and proceeded giving Greg his bath. When the bath was over, Mike pulled the stopper in the tub and had Greg standup so that he could be dried off. When Mike was done, he let Greg brush his teeth and then sent him to his room.
Mike followed his son to the bedroom door and stopped to pick up the needed items to diaper Greg. Mike told Greg to lie face down on the bed so that he could put the lotion and powder on his bottom. When Mike was done with the powder he opened up the diaper and had Greg lie on it face up. Mike then did Greg’s front careful not to over touch Greg’s very erect penis. Mike pulled the diaper up between Greg’s legs and taped it in place. Mike made sure that the leg openings were in the right place, that being diaper to skin and plastic out.
Mike told Greg to get dressed and not to take off what he had just put on. Mike started for the door but stopped when he heard a very faint rustling noise of plastic and turned to see Greg’s hand on the diaper. Greg saw his father looking and took his hand away and started to get up.
Mike went to the bathroom and again filled the tub half full of warm water for Ken’s bath. Mike then went and got Ken for his bath. Mike had Ken to do the same thing as Greg did for his bath. When Ken was done, Mike told him to go to his room and he would be in to diaper him.
Mike went in to Greg’s room to pick up the lotion and powder and found Greg lying on the bed drinking from his morning bottle. Mike got the two items and a diaper, then went to Ken’s room. Ken was lying face down on the bed waiting for his father to diaper him. Mike diapered Ken and told him to get dressed so that they could go for breakfast.
Mike went to get a trash bag to put all the used diapers in as the two boys got dressed. The two boys went down to the family room when they were dressed and Mike checked to make sure both boys were playing by the rules. They were.
Mike had both sons sit in the back set of the car as they headed off to the bank and then a place to eat. During the ride to the bank and the restaurant both boys sat quietly in the back set of the car. Mike had to check to see if the two were still alive when they got to the restaurant. Neither son wanted to go in because someone might notice that they were in diapers. Mike told the two to get out of the car because they were going to go in and eat.
The meal went without any problems and no one even noticed that the two boys were in diapers.
After the meal and back in the car Mike told the sons that they had two other stops to make before going home. The first stop was at a medical supply shop and the other was the food store. Both sons questioned why a medical supply shop. Mike said he needed to get some plastic pants for some diapered kids that he knew. Both Ken and Greg blushed at that statement.
At the medical supply shop Mike had both of the boys come in with him. The sales person, who also was an L.P.N., asked if they needed help?
"Yes, we need some plastic pants to go over diapers," Mike said.
The sales person pointed to aisle three. As Mike and the red faced boys walked over to the aisle, the sales person noticed that the boys were in diapers by the way they walked. The sales person went over to the aisle, and asked if she could help the boys find the correct size of plastic pants that would fit them. The boys' faces grew real bright red from embarrassment. "Don’t be embarrassed a lot of people of all ages have to wear diapers, my daughter has to and she is about your age," the sales person said.
Mike knew this could be trouble if she asked what medical problem caused them to need to be in diapers. The sales person said that her daughter needed six to eight of the pants a day because she used cloth. Mike pickedup on the cue and said that they used disposable diapers and four each should do them at this time. The sales clerk asked for the boys’ sizes and went to the stock room to get them.
Mike sent the boys to the car to wait for him and he waited at the cash register for the sales person to come back. The sales clerk rang up the sale and told Mike the total with tax was ninety three dollars and seventy four cents. As Mike handed over his credit card he wondered who was being punished, him for paying so much or the boys. The sales clerk asked Mike to sign the charge slip, and if he would like to be added to the store’s mailing list. Mike signed and said "No thank you."
"You have good looking sons, I hope their problem can be taken care of quickly. I can tell this is new to all of you." The sales clerk said.
"Thank you, and yes we are." Mike said.
Mike picked up the bag with the eight plastic pants in side and left the store.
In the car, Mike found himself shaking from what just had happen. The boys just sat in the back seat with blank faces wondering what other shocking things their father had planned for them.
On the way to the food store Mike asked the boys if they wanted to be fed any baby food. The two boys looked at each other and asked if it was a trick question. Mike said no it was not, but he would need to know before they went to the store. Greg asked is dad if it would it be the only thing they could eat if they said yes. Mike answered it would be up to them. Greg said he would as long as daddy fed him. Ken said no and looked at his brother to make sure he heard him correctly. Mike was shocked by that statement and asked Greg to confirm his answer.
"You did hear right," said Greg.
Maybe he and Greg were going to get a long as well as he did with his other son.
Mike asked Greg at what meal he wanted to be fed baby food. Greg said that he would need to see what was offered before he made up his mind.
At the food store Mike and the boys did the shopping for the week. Mike stocked up on apple and cranberry juices for his sons' bottles. The second to last stop in the food store was the baby food aisle for Greg to pick out his meal.
Mike also pick up more lotion and powder so that each boy would have one in their room.
From the store the three went back home to spend the rest Saturday at home. The first thing Mike did when they got home was to check to see if any diapers needed to be changed. Both of his sons needed to be changed. Mike changed the boys and put on their plastic pants over their clean diapers.
The boys spent the rest of the day with just diapers, plastic pants and a shirt on.
That night when Mike put Greg to bed. Greg said that he was sorry for what he had said that morning to his dad. Mike also offered an apology for hitting Greg. Greg then asked his dad if could answer a question for him. Mike said he would try. "Do you really love us?" Greg asked.
Mike looked at Greg and said "Yes, I do. I love you more than you will ever know." Mike kissed Greg goodnight and Greg kissed his dad goodnight.
Sunday
Mike was up early. The sun had not gotten out of bed yet. Mike went and checked on his two sleeping sons and then went to the kitchen. In the kitchen Mike made up two morning bottles for his sons and coffee for himself.
Mike checked to see if the Sunday paper had been delivered yet, only to meet the paper girl at the front door. "Good Morning, and Thank You" Mike said to the paper girl who just smiled and handed him the paper and his bill for the month.
Mike took the paper back to the family room and sat down with his cup of coffee and started to look through it. The parenting section, Mike got a good laugh out of. The first article was that children should do more. The second article was on children that wear diapers and drink from bottles to get away from stress they are under as they grow up. Mike finished looking over the paper and then took the bottles to the boy's rooms.
From the first time Mike had checked on Greg to now the top sheet had been kicked off and Mike could see that his son had a very wet diaper. Mike lightly touched the wet diaper through the plastic pants and found it to be cold.
Mike then went to Ken’s room and checked on him. Ken was dry, but Mike knew not for long.
Mike knew that Greg was very wet and he would have to do something so that Greg would not over flow the diaper if Greg were to wet again. As Mike passed the second bathroom he saw the answer to the problem. The bag of baby diapers. One of them inside the other diaper would make a good overnight diaper for his sons. It was something that Pam had done when they were toddlers, and still needed diapers at night.
Mike got his second cup of coffee and headed to his bathroom to do his morning thing.
When Mike was dressed, he went in to Greg’s room and started to change Greg’s diaper without waking him up first. Mike had not gotten far in getting the plastic pants off before Greg was awake. Greg asked his dad what time it was, and what he was doing. Mike answered with early and changing your wet diaper. Mike asked Greg at what time did he wet his diaper? Greg did not even remember wetting it. Mike handed Greg the bottle, and then finished changing Greg’s diaper. When Mike was done changing Greg’s diaper, he told Greg to go back to sleep, but Greg was up and would stay up.
Mike then checked on Ken who was still a sleep and dry.
Mike then went back to the family room to find Greg reading the parenting section. When Greg was done with that section he looked at Mike and asked him if he had read that section. His dad said yes and asked Greg if he had any questions. Greg had one big question but was fearful in asking it. Greg hinted that he did have a question. Mike told him that no matter what he would not get upset. Greg asked very slowly and very carefully picking his words as he asked his question. "If they had been open about the diapers from the start would they have been allowed to continue and why this for a punishment?" Mike sat back in the chair. After a few seconds that seemed liked hours Greg got his answers. "To the first part of your question, before today maybe if you had a good reason or need for them, then yes, otherwise no way. To the second part, punishment is to shame or embarrass the party that did wrong, sometimes the more embarrassing the better the punishment. For you and your brother, to be placed back into diapers and taken care of fit that level of embarrassment. That is only partly true I want you and your brother to know that I care for you. You both showed me a key to do it with."
Both of them were a little taken back by what had just happened. They had talked without trying to push the other persons' buttons, and were open. Mike also told Greg that if he would have known that it would take something like this to get the two of them to talk to each other it might have happened sooner.
Mike looked at the clock and said that he had better get Ken up so that they could go to church. The last time they went to church was their mother’s funeral.
Mike stopped by the bathroom and started filling the bath tub before he woke Ken up. Mike then got Greg and bathed him first while Ken drank his bottle. Mike then gave Ken his bath.
Mike let both of the boys stay naked for about half hour to let the skin breathe. This time, Mike started with diaper rash cream as both bottoms had little red dots all over them.
Once the diapering was done the boys put on their Sunday suits. The pants were a little tight over the diapers, but they looked OK with the jackets on. Mike had also changed in to a suit and they were off to church.
After church they stopped and had breakfast at a fast food place.
When they got home Mike had the boys change to just diapers, plastic pants and a T-shirt for the rest of the day.
That night Greg asked what was for dinner. Mike smiled at him and said guess. Greg’s first guess was correct, it was the dinner he picked out at the food store the other day. Mike and Ken were having something that Greg hated the taste of (liver).
Mike heated Greg’s dinner first. Mike would cook dinner for Ken and himself after Greg had been fed. Mike had set the table so that he and Greg sat on the same side to make it easier to feed Greg his dinner. Mike got a tea towel out of the drawer and tied it around Greg’s neck for his bib. Greg was a very good boy and gobbled up all of his dinner without much fuss. When Greg was done with his dinner Mike gave him a bottle of juice to drink.
Then he and Ken ate their dinner.
After dinner and the dishes were washed, Mike did a diaper check to see if either of his boys needed to be changed. The boys were already wetting without much effort on their part. But neither boy had messed in his diaper and Mike knew this was not good.
Mike would be going out tomorrow for a diaper run and maybe enemas if things did not change soon.
That night at bed time, Mike placed a baby diaper inside the other diaper to make an overnight diaper for his “baby” boys. Both boys questioned why the baby diaper. Mike explained that he was making them an overnight diaper.
Monday
Mike was greeted by both of his sons before six a.m., both wanting to be changed. Before Mike could ask why his sons wanted to be changed, his nose answered the question. Mike took the boys to their bathroom and changed them in there.
Both of the boys had wet and messed at night and were not sure when they did it. After they had their diapers changed Mike sent them back to bed for a couple of more hours of sleep.
After eight a.m., Mike was awake, he had a big day planned for them today.
After the boys were bathed, diapered, and they were all dressed they headed off to the local amusement park.
Before they got to the park Mike stopped and picked up more diapers for the boys.
The amusement park had not opened by the time they arrived at the park, but was due to open in five minutes. Mike parked the car away from the other cars on the lot and asked if his boys needed their diapers changed. Both boys said no after a quick check.
Mike put some diapers and powder in a carry on type bag that would go into the park with them.
When the park opened Mike and the boys stopped and got tickets before, heading to the main gate to get in. Just inside the gate was a guard who was checking bags for any alcohol or glass bottles. The guard asked Mike to open the bag so that he could check it out. The guard looked into the bag and then looked at Mike. Mike said they were for his kids. The guard said that he should get a handicap map to find the changing station located inside the park and to have a nice day. The guard watched them as Mike zipped the bag shut and they started to walk a way. Mike stopped and got the map that the guard had talked about. The diaper changing station would sooner or later be needed that day.
The lines were short for the rides as Monday was an off day at the park. This was a good thing too, as they were able to go on all the rides and see some of the shows.
The only real problem was that the men’s restrooms were not setup to change diapers in. The signs and map showed they were until you got there, then only on the woman’s restrooms sign did it say diaper station.
Mike and the boys were able to work things out in the handicap area of the restroom. Mike changed their diapers with them standing up. It turns out to be more of an art to change a person standing than lying down.
After the drinks, candy, fries and other things to eat they were too full for lunch.
Mike did cut the snacks out around three o’clock so that the guys would be hungry for dinner at seven. The shaking and spinning of the rides had to help the food settle, for if it didn’t then why all the food vendors in the park.
The one thing that Mike knew for sure was that the restaurant did not spin, shake, or turn you upside down. Mike also was looking forward to seat with padding in it.
Mike got to practice the art of the standing diaper change on the boys before they went to dinner.
The restaurant had an all you can eat buffet dinner for eleven dollars per person, not cheap, but a good price for being inside the amusement park. Mike made sure that the boy drank their water and two glasses of milk each before they would leave the restaurant.
The night sky was dark enough and the lack of wind that the park announced that they would have fireworks tonight. The fireworks would start in five minutes at the east end of the park.
Mike and the boys along with the others in the park headed to the east end for the fireworks. The odd thing was the group of people they were with. They all had the little kids and babies. It seemed fitting for them to be part of this group. The mothers asked openly if their son(s) or daughter(s) needed their diapers changed. The children would answer without embarrassment if they did or did not need to be changed. A woman walking near Ken asked her young Ken if he needed his diaper changed. Mike’s Ken answered no. The woman laughingly said "Good, because I did not ask you." The woman took her son’s hand and headed for the lady’s room. Mike looked at Greg and said "and you?" "No." Greg said.
When they got to the east end of the park they found a spot by a picket fence to watch the fireworks. The spot was next to the ground crew (pyrotechnic crew) who were firing of the fireworks. The crowd "oooh’ed" and "aww’ed" as the fireworks exploded overhead in the rainbow of colors. The little children had their hands over their ears to soften the loud bangs.
The fireworks show lasted for twenty minutes before the big finale that only lasted for a few moments. The crowd applauded at the end of the show, and the pyrotechnic crew took a bow. The crowd dispersed quickly back into the park, almost as quickly as they had come to watch the show. Mike and the boys headed for the last of rides that they had not been on yet.
It was about ten p.m., and the last ride they were on had shaken Mike to the point that he needed to use the men’s room. Mike told his sons to wait for him outside as he would only be a moment. As Mike walked into the restroom he noticed that on the sign it said diaper change station. Inside Mike saw a counter that was about three feet deep and about twelve feet long with a nursery type top and nursery prints on the three walls around it. Mike took care of his needs, and then checked out the counter more fully. The counter was built to handle a large amount of weight. Mike did a quick check and found that he was the only person in there.
Mike went back outside and asked if they needed to be changed. They both said yes slowly and quietly. Greg was first to be changed, but before he got on the counter he checked to make sure they were alone. Greg voiced his fears about someone coming in while he was being changed. Mike said that it was a risk but with the number of people in the park it was not a very big risk. Mike also told Greg the longer he stalled the greater the risk of someone coming in. Greg asked if they could do it in a stall. Mike said no and if Greg did not get on the changing counter now that he would change his diaper in the middle of the restroom. Greg got up on the counter slowly as Mike got the needed items out of the bag to change Greg. Mike had included some under pads in the bag to use as changing pads. Mike undid Greg’s belt and unsnapped the waist hook and unzipped the zipper on Gregs pants. Mike then had Greg lift up his hips and Mike then slid the under pad under Greg and then pulled down his pants and plastic pants. Mike told Greg to relax and that he could put his hips down. Greg let himself down but he was anything but relaxed. Mike opened the diaper and sprinkled powder on the half that would be in contact with Greg’s bottom. Mike then undid the tapes on the diaper that Greg was wearing and pushed the wet diaper down between his legs. Mike took one of the wipes and cleaned up Greg’s front diaper area and then sprinkled powder over it. Mike had Greg lift him self up one more time at the hips. Mike slid the wet diaper out of the way and slid the fresh one under Greg’s bottom. Greg let himself down as his dad pulled the diaper up between his legs and taped into place. Mike told Greg to lift up one more time and this time Mike pulled up the plastic pants over the diaper and then pulled up Greg’s pants. Mike had Greg get off the counter so that he could tuck in his shirt and do up his pants. Greg’s face was bright red from embarrassment and his heart was pounding hard. When Mike was done with Greg it was Ken’s turn to get his diaper changed on the counter. As Mike had said, no one came into the restroom while they were getting their diapers changed.
It was late when the park closed and the traffic was backed up as every one tried to leave at the same time.
On the way home Mike found a drive thru fast food place that was open and got some coffee to help keep him awake on the drive home. The boys were asleep in the back seat of the car. Mike made one more stop at a public rest area to throw away the bad coffee that he had bought at the drive thru. The coffee was so bad that the paper cup tasted better than the coffee.
That night Mike had to carry each of the boys to bed as they were fast a sleep. Neither one of the boys woke up that night when Mike undressed them or changed their diapers. Mike kissed each of his sons goodnight as he tucked them into bed and wished them happy dreams.
Tuesday
The day was a dark, wet, cold, gray day. The type of day that you just want to stay in bed. Mike and the boys slept in. The day before had been a long day and every one needed the sleep.
Mike was the first one up and it was after ten o’clock. Mike made the bathroom his first stop before going to the kitchen to make his morning coffee.
As Mike drank his coffee he heard a loud thud, then yelling from Ken and Greg. Mike went to find out what was going on only to find the boys on the floor in a fight. Mike broke them up and sent them back to their rooms.
Mike could tell that it was going to be one of those days. Mike went into Ken’s room and closed the door. Mike then asked what the heck was going on between them. Ken just shrugged his shoulders to Mike’s question. Mike then went over to Greg’s room and asked the same question. Greg just gave his dad a blank look. Mike knew that this would go on all day if he did not put a stop to it now. Mike told the boys to stay in their rooms until he got them.
As Mike went to the family room the house rang with Ken’s and Greg’s voices yell at each other. "Did so." "Did not." "Did so." Mike set two under pads on the floor about six feet apart and moved things out of reach from each location. Mike then went and got Greg and had him sit on one of the two pads facing the other pad. Mike then went and got Ken and had him sit on the other pad facing his brother.
The boys just stared through each other. This went on for forty-five minutes in total silence. "I don’t know what this is all about, but I am sure that it is not that one of you walked into the other." Mike said. Neither son broke the gaze or the silence. "Fine both of you stay there until we get to the bottom of this," Mike said.
Mike sat down in a chair and started to read a book that he had for over a year and never read. Mike was into the second chapter of the book when Greg asked if he could be changed. "Not until I find out what the heck the problem is between you two," said Mike without looking up from his book.
About thirty minutes later Greg said, "It's all Ken’s fault and not mine." "Is not" said Ken. "Is so." Greg yelled. Mike set the book down and asked Greg, "What is Ken’s fault?" "This is," said Greg. "I assume you mean the two of you sitting here is his fault," said Mike. "Partially..." said Greg and fell silent. "Is not," stated Ken. Mike asked Greg, "What is the other part or parts?" "This," said Greg. "Does ‘this’ mean the diapers and being treated like a baby?" Asked Mike. Greg shook is head in agreement to what Mike just asked. Mike looked at Ken and asked, "Is this true?" Before Ken could speak Greg said, "Don’t lie. You talked me in to trying them on one time and we get caught. You said that dad would not be coming home that night. You lied." Ken said, "I did not lie, dad said that he would see us Saturday morning. I did not know that he would be home that early." Mike said, "So this is all my fault that I caught the two of you doing what you were doing." Both Ken and Greg said, "No," it was not their father’s fault. Mike then asked "Then why did you, Greg, not tell the truth Friday night in your bedroom? You admitted then that you were at fault." Greg hung his head in shame. Mike then asked Ken if this was true again. Ken said that it was almost all true, but he did not force Greg to try on a diaper and that he was fearful if he told the truth.
Mike let out a sigh and asked what he did wrong to have two sons that lie. Mike looked at both of them and said "What should I do with you, is this another lie or the truth?" Mike waited for an answer but got none.
Mike picked up his coffee cup and went to the kitchen to get a second cup of coffee. The coffee maker had turned itself off and the coffee was cold. Mike went to the sink to wash out his cup and he saw the soap. His mother had washed his mouth out with it and his wife had used it on the kids too. For some reason no one wants to repeat what they did once they had their mouth washed out with soap, and Mike knew that first hand.
Mike made up two bottles of juice and carried them into the family room and set them on the table next to the chair he was sitting in.
Mike could see that both of the boys had leaked on to the pads. Mike told them to stay put he would be back to change both of them. Mike went and got the needed items to change the two boys.
When Mike got back the boys stopped talking Mike did not know what they were talking about and did not really care. Mike started with Ken and had Greg observe Ken’s diaper changing. When Ken was done Mike had Ken observe Greg’s diaper changing.
Mike then told Greg to stay in the family room right in that spot. Mike took Ken’s hand and had him standup. With Mike’s other hand he pickup one of the two bottles. Mike then lead Ken out of the family room and back towards the bed rooms. Mike lead Ken into the bathroom and closed the door behind them. Mike told Ken to brush his teeth. When Ken was done brushing his teeth, Mike told him to put the bar of soap in his mouth and bite down on it. Mike said that was for not telling the truth. Ken’s face showed that the taste of soap was well into his mouth. Mike said that it was OK to take the bar of soap out of his mouth. Ken was only too glad to spit the soap out and rinse his mouth out.
Mike then opened to bathroom door and lead Ken to his room. Mike told Ken he would be back when dinner was ready and he did not want to hear any noise coming from this room.
Mike then handed Ken his bottle of juice, and shut the locked bedroom door. Mike then went back and got Greg and the other bottle. They too stopped at the bathroom. Greg also got to taste the soap for his part in the lie. Greg was then taken to his room and locked in for the rest of the day as well.
Mike went back to the family room and cleaned it up then he fixed some lunch for himself. After Mike ate, he started on the laundry.
The last items that were washed were the six sets of plastic pants. The last two had an odor of urine. Mike added about half a cup of bleach with the soap and set the washer on the low water setting and started it. On this trip from the laundry room, Mike checked on both the boys and found them asleep. Mike collected the empty bottles and took them to the kitchen.
Mike then went about cleaning the house and doing the dishes. When Mike was done with the dishes he went out and got the mail. When Mike came back into the house he noticed that it smelled, and would need a good airing out, but not on this cold rainy day. Mike got out a sauce pan and put some bay leaves, a stick of cinnamon and water and then set it on the stove on a low heat. He also lit some candles just like his wife did when she said the house smelled bad.
Mike made up two bottles of milk and warmed them up a little before taking them to the boys in their rooms. Mike did no say a word to either son, he set the bottle on the night stand and left the room.
Mike went back to the laundry and took the towels out of the drier and folded them.
The six plastic pants would be air dried on hangers. Mike did remember that much from the time the boys were real babies. He had put the plastic pants in the drier when the boys were babies, and had to buy a new drier because they melted to the drier drum.
Mike then set off to make dinner, a beef stew on this cold day. When the stew was in the oven Mike sat back down and started reading his book.
Just before dinner was ready Mike set the table and then went to check on the boys. Mike started with Greg. The first order of business was a diaper change. After dinner would be baths, and if they were good some TV.
As Mike cleaned Greg’s messy bottom up, Mike asked Greg if he had learned any thing today. Greg said that he did and that he would not lie to his father again. When Mike was done changing Greg he told him to go wash his hands then go to the dinner table and sit and wait for him and Ken. Mike followed Greg out of the bedroom.
Mike went into Ken’s room. Ken was waiting for his father. Ken stated that he did not feel well, and that he was light headed. Mike said that was because he had not eaten and it would go away after he ate. Mike changed Ken’s dirty and wet diaper but did not clean up Ken before the new diaper was put on. Mike told Ken that after dinner it would be his bath time and if he was a very good boy that he could watch some TV before bed time.
Mike walked Ken to the bathroom and had him wash his hands. Ken noticed that the bar of soap had two sets of teeth marks in it when he picked it up to wash his hands.
When Ken was done, Mike led Ken to the table and told him to sit down. Mike tied towels around the neck of each boy to act as a bib.
Mike went into the kitchen and washed his hands before serving the meal. Mike placed the meal and two bottles in front of each boy. One bottle had milk, the other had juice.
The three of them ate in total silence. When dinner was over and the bottles were empty, Mike asked Greg to clear the table and put the dishes into the dish washer. Mike then untied the towel around Ken’s neck and told Ken to go to the bathroom and wait for him. Mike then untied Greg’s towel and told Greg to get started.
Mike went to the bathroom were Ken was waiting for his bath. Mike started fill the tub, and had Ken step into the tub as it was filling. Mike took Ken’s diaper off and had him sit down in the tub. Mike then told Ken that he was very disappointed with him. And that he should have told the truth Friday night or Saturday morning when they talked. Mike asked Ken, "Why should I believe any thing you do or say from this point on?" Ken knew that he was in hot water with his father even though the water in the tub was cool. Mike waited for an answer from Ken but got none. Mike then had Ken stand up and step out of the tub onto the bath mat. Mike was still waiting for some form of an answer but Ken just hung his head. Mike dried Ken off and was not very kind about do it.
Mike then took Ken to his bedroom to get his diaper put on. Mike rubbed in the diaper rash cream on Ken’s bare bottom until it was white all over, and between his legs. Mike then powdered his white bottom and rolled him on to the waiting diaper. Mike then spread lotion over Ken’s front and chest and rub it in followed by a good powdering. Mike taped the diaper firmly in place. Ken said that was a little tight but it fell on deaf ears as Mike pulled up the plastic pant over Ken’s diaper.
Mike got a clean T-shirt out of the dresser and put it on Ken. Ken knew that he was not going to bed at this time as his father did not put a diaper inside his diaper. Mike took Ken by his hand and lead him back to the dinner table.
Mike then got some paper and a pencil and placed it in front of Ken. Mike then told Ken to write two apologies. One to Greg and one to his father, and he would be done when Greg was done with his bath.
Mike took Greg by the hand and lead him towards the bathroom. As Mike bathed Greg he said, "I can understand you not wanting to talk to me, but why did you not tell the truth?" Greg started to say that he didn’t want to get Ken in trouble and that Mike would not believe him if he had. The rest of Greg’s bath was in silence.
After Greg’s bath, Mike diapered Greg and also put a clean T-shirt on Greg. Then lead him to the dinner table.
Mike asked if Ken was done. Ken said yes he was. Mike told Ken to read the apologies out loud. Ken’s voice was shaky as he read the two apologies out loud. When Ken was done, Mike asked for the written apologies and quickly read them. Mike then handed one of them to Greg.
Mike had Greg write two apologies for his part, and read them a loud. Mike told the boys that they could watch some TV. Mike went into the kitchen and got out two very large glasses made out of plastic and filled them half way with juice and the other half with warm water. Mike took the two glasses to the boys and told them to drink them.
After about an hour or so, Mike asked if the boys would like any ice cream before bed. Both of them said yes. Mike went and served the ice cream in three bowls. When the boys were done, Mike sent them to brush their teeth and then to bed. Mike changed both boys before they went to sleep. Mike stayed up and watched the late news before he went to bed.
Wednesday
This morning the boys were up before Mike, they were up before the sun. Ken was the first one to walk pass Greg’s door on his way to the kitchen. Greg followed Ken into the kitchen where they got some breakfast.
Ken told Greg that he was sorry for what had happened and after looking back over it that it was all his fault. Ken also said that he would plead with their dad to get the punishment lifted for Greg.
Greg told Ken that it would not be necessary for he too was at fault for trying to cover for Ken. The two of them started to compare notes on how their dad was treating them. Ken was shocked to find out that their dad had spanked Greg. Greg confirmed that he had pushed past the limits and said thing that where not very nice in the heat of the moment.
The two of them found that their father was treating them the same for the most part. The two of them determined that their dad was not all that bad, that they both liked diapers but did not like having their dad changing them or washing them. They decided two things. First was to serve breakfast to their dad. Second to talk with their dad about who would change them and bathe them. The hope was to soften him up before the talk.
They decided on a plan of action and put it in motion. The two of them cooked breakfast and made coffee and set the meal on a tray to surprise their dad. Ken carried the tray to the master bedroom. Greg opened the door and woke up their dad. Mike was very overwhelmed by what the two of them did. Ken set the tray down on the bed and said that he and Greg had made him breakfast and that they would be back a little later with more coffee. Both of them left the bedroom before Mike could even say thank you.
Mike was now wake and knew something was up but he would enjoy the meal and deal with what ever it was later.
About half way through the meal, just as Mike had a mouth full of food, Greg came in with more coffee, filled Mike’s cup and then left without saying a word. Mike tried to say something but only crumbs of food came out of his mouth. Mike finished his breakfast and then went and took a shower.
When Mike got out of the shower the tray was gone and his bed was made. Mike was now fearful of what his two sons were up to. Mike left his room and looked into Ken’s room. The bed was made and every thing needed to change Ken was laid out. The same held true for Greg’s room.
Mike did not smell smoke so the house was not on fire, but something had to be wrong. The two boys were in the family room reading. The kitchen was cleaned up. Mike asked if the boys had eaten breakfast. They both said yes. Mike thanked the boys for his breakfast. Mike did not want to spoil a good thing but the fear that something was wrong was very strong.
Mike sat down in his chair and took two deep breaths. The boys looked at each other with a look of "we got him." Mike asked what was going on, what did they break? Both Ken and Greg began to speak. They said "Dad, what is going on is this, we realize that you care for us, and have tried to treat us equally when we do things that we should not have done." Mike face was white and he shuddered to think what was next to come.
That they would like some changes to this punishment, and they are that he not diaper them, or bath them that they could do that them selves, Ken said. Ken went on to say, That Greg was right to be mad it him and that he should have told the truth the first time asked. And he did not know why Greg had covered for him and that if other punishment were to came down because of that, only he was at fault and not Greg.
That he covered Ken because he was his brother, Greg said.
The boys sat back and waited for Mike to say anything. Mike asked, "What else?" The boys shook their heads to no. Mike was taken back by all of this and waited for it to sink in fully.
The door bell rang and since Mike was the only one dressed he went and answered the door. It was some friends of both Ken and Greg. The friends asked if Ken and Greg were going to the mall with them to play some video games and hang out. Mike told the kids that Ken and Greg were grounded this week and they would not be going. The friends said good bye to Mike and started laughing that both of them were grounded. Mike closed the front door and went back to the family room and sat back down.
Mike said let me get this straight, you made the beds, cooked me breakfast and cleaned up in hopes that I would not change your diapers or give you baths. The boys said "Yes."
"You gave me more than that, you showed me that you care for each other and that you can and do work as a team," Mike said.
Mike looked at Ken and asked Greg to leave to room. The boys looked at each other and smiled in a victory. Mike asked Ken to come closer so that his hands would touch Ken’s shoulders. Ken did as asked.
Mike placed his hands on Ken’s shoulders and said, "No way, I will change you and bath you." Ken hung his head and said, "OK, I understand that this my punishment." Mike picked up Ken’s head and looked him in the eyes. "I am glad the truth is coming out, I did not think it would be this long in coming," said Mike.
"I have few thing to say to you, one don’t ever lie to me again." Mike let go of Ken’s head and it stayed fixed to where Mike had held it. "Two, Friday night I knew that you were the one, because you were crying. Greg, only because he said it was him, if he had told the truth he would not be in diapers now. Three, I love you, I care about you, I may not have showed it but I really do," said Mike.
Ken said he would not lie again.
Mike directed Ken to get up and that he would be along to change Ken after he had talked to Greg in private.
Greg was in the process of changing himself when Mike walked in. Mike told Greg that they had lost and that he would still be doing the changing and the baths and that he loved him. Greg’s face showed the sad look of loss.
Mike said that some good had come from what they had done. He was not sure if his sons cared how he felt and that their act showed him that they did. That statement baffled Greg. Mike finished changing Greg. Greg asked what happened to Ken. Mike said "Nothing that you all ready don’t know." Mike stated that he was done with Greg and that he should get dressed for the day as they would be going out and to open his window.
Mike went over to Ken’s room and changed him and also told him to get dressed for the day and to open his window to air out the room.
As Greg and Ken were getting dressed, Mike made a phone call to his in-laws to see if he and the boys could use the country place in the woods. The boys grandmother was over come with joy to hear from Mike, and told him where the key was hidden. She asked if they could stay the night. She also said that they hoped to go up to the place later that day and see them.
The county place was a two hour drive from either house and a half way point for both.
They had not spent any time with them since the funeral. Mike told her that he was trying to spend some time with his sons and do some guy things, but she was so over come to hear from him, the point was lost. A fact that they would find out later that day.
Mike told the boys to pack an overnight bag, that they were going to grandma and grandpa’s country place for an overnight. Mike packed his bag and also packed some lunch for them.
Mike asked the boys if they packed every thing that was needed for the overnight. Each son had one bag and one bag that they shared, and the boys said yes. Mike went down a check list just to make sure they had every thing and they did.
Mike sent Ken to close and lock the windows while he and Greg loaded the bags into the car. Ken made sure that the front door was locked and they were off to the country place.
Mike had made good time in getting to the county place. Even with a stop for gas they had the car unload and fishing poles in hand in under two hours.
The sun was out the air was warm and the birds were singing and the three of them were off to fish. Mike brought the lunch he had packed at home and Ken carried one of the over night bags that had the diapers in it. Greg had a bag to put the fish in. The three of them walked the half mile back to the pond where the fish were.
The place had not changed over the years and Mike was glad for that. This was the same path that he and his wife walked where they were dating.
The boys took off their shirts to catch some rays while fishing. Mike made them put on some sun screen so that they would not burn. The fishing was slow because the sun was so bright, but that was OK they were together and doing something as a family.
It was two o’clock and Mike asked if they wanted lunch. Both of the boys said yes. Mike got the lunch out and handed each of them a sandwich and a bottle of juice.
Mike had also packed cookies and fruit for a snack.
After lunch Greg came up to his dad and said that his diaper needed to be changed. Mike asked Ken if he also needed to be changed. Ken said yes. Mike told the boys to take off their shoes, socks and pants. Mike help them to remove their plastic pants and then he removed their diapers. A big smile came over Mike. Neither Ken nor Greg knew why he was smiling. Mike was looking at his two naked sons. Mike said that it reminds him of when they were young and he and their mother would bring them down to the pond and let them play in the nude.
Mike said since no one is around and your skin is so wet he would not diaper them right away.
Ken and Greg were happy that their dad would share his happiness. Mike told the boys to go play, and then he started to snicker as the two of them walked a way. Neither Ken nor Greg liked being laugh at, but it was funny to their dad to see their two white bottoms bounce as they walked away. The only thing missing was Pam holding their hands as they went to the play area.
Mike cleaned up the area and turn the plastic pants inside out and put them over the posts at the end of the dock to dry.
Mike then stretched out for a quick nap under the tree.
An hour had passed when the boys came back from the play area about one hundred fifty feet from the pond. The area had been built for them by their grandpa when they were little kids.
The boys asked if there was any thing to eat. Mike got out the cookies and the fruit. It was gone before Mike could even get a cookie. Then it happen. Greg started peeing and did not even know he was doing it. Mike said that it was time for them to get their diapers back on. Mike wiped the sand off of them and then diapered the boys.
Just has he finished a horn sounded off in the distance, Mike told the boys to get their plastic pants on and get dressed as their grandparents had arrived. Ken asked if they knew. Mike said they did not know yet and he would explain if it came up.
The three of them carried back to the house what they took to the pond.
Grandma was waiting at the door for them and gave them all a big hug and kisses. Even grandpa was hugging them. When Helen hugged Mike she whispered into his ear did he know that Greg had a diaper on! Mike whispered back, "So does Ken, I will explain later." Helen looked at Mike and said they had to catch up on things. From the tone of Helen’s voice, Mike knew the meaning.
Paul asked his grandsons to help him unload the car. Their grandmother asked if they needed any thing to eat or drink. Mike said water to drink, that it might help to fill them up because boys of that age could eat a house and still be hungry.
Helen asked if they had any fish that needed to be cleaned for dinner. The boys said the fishing was bad today, as they went to help their grandpa unload the car. Helen went to the freezer and got a block of frozen fish out for dinner.
As Greg and Ken came into the kitchen with bags of groceries, Grandma said "Just don’t stand there help me put them away," to Mike.
After the car was unload, Paul asked the boys to help him in the shed to get the lawn mower out. The grass around the house was weed high, and would take the rest of the day to cut and rake up. Paul was glad to have the help of his grandsons.
Helen wanted to know what was up with the boys and why they were in diapers. Mike said, "Lets take a walk in the woods and I will tell you the whole story." Mike started the chat off with general chit chat until they were away from the house and shed and well into the woods where no one would hear them talk. Mike found a fallen tree and sat down on it. Helen sat down next to him. Mike told her the truth about what had happened starting Friday night through today.
Helen saw that Mike was upset, and that Mike blamed himself for the boys' actions. She also saw his joy that he and Greg were talking and not fighting each other.
Mike asked her not to let the boys know that she knew, and if she wanted them to leave he would understand. Helen rubbed his back and told him she did not want them to go. Helen asked Mike questions about work and other items. They sat and talked for over an hour before Helen asked any questions on the reason they went on this walk. Mike answered them the best he could. The last point that Helen made to Mike was that she understood his reasons, but did not agree with them. Helen said that they had better get back before they were missed, and she had a dinner to cook, and he had a salad to make.
After dinner Helen had Paul help her with the dishes. So that Mike could take care of some other items that might need taking care of. Mike tapped Ken on the head and pointed upstairs. Ken and Mike went up to the room that the two boys were staying in. Mike changed Ken’s diaper, and sent him back down to send Greg up to him. Mike changed Greg’s diaper and followed Greg back downstairs.
Grandma and grandpa were just finishing washing the dishes when Mike went into the kitchen to see if they need any help.
The country place did not have a TV but was well stocked with games. The dinner table was now the game table. The boys picked a card game and all five of them played for hours just like the old days.
Paul said goodnight first and went off to bed. About five or six minutes later Helen went upstairs and came back a few minutes later. Mike said that it was time for the boys to take a shower and go to bed. Helen said she would put out some towels for them to use and would make some warm milk for the boys to go to bed with. Helen went off and passed Ken on the stairs going in opposite directions.
Mike had told the boys that they would have to take off their own diaper tonight but he would be up to put on their overnight one and for Ken to go first.
Helen went into the kitchen and started to warm some milk for the boys and Mike.
Ken went in to the bathroom and found the towels that grandma had put out along with two white plastic trash bags on top of the towels. Ken used one bag for his dirty clothes and the other for his used diaper.
When the shower shutoff, Helen told Greg that Ken was done with his shower. She could hear the running water in the kitchen as the bathroom was over her head.
When the water started up again, she called Mike into the kitchen and asked him to watch the milk that she had started to warm. Mike said that Ken would need his help and when he was done he would watch the milk. Helen said, "Now," and Mike did as he was ordered he knew from the tone not to say no.
Ken was in the bedroom with the towel wrapped around his waist getting the lotion and powder out of the one bag when grandma walked in. She asked Ken, "If he wanted to be in diapers, he was a young man and not a baby." Ken’s face grew red with embarrassment as he tried to find words to answer her with. Helen did not wait for an answer before asking her next question "Well -- why then?" Ken said in a meek voice "Well sort of I do ... and I don’t ... it is a punishment you see --." "The answer is yes or no, not maybe, and no I do not see." Said Helen.
Mike had taken the milk off the stove and poured it into two mugs to carry upstairs. Mike knew that Ken was waiting and did not want to clean up any messes. Mike went up to check on Ken when he was at the top of the steps and had heard what Helen had said. Mike walked into the bedroom and set the two mugs of warm milk down on the night stand. Mike looked at Helen and said "You are asking why to the wrong person. What ever his reasons are we will never understand, because they are his reasons and only he understands them." Mike went on to say, "This week is punishment for lying about it, that is why." Ken’s face was red with embarrassment and his body was shaking. His eye was swollen with tears.
As Helen looked at Ken she saw a young man standing before her. As she looked into Ken’s teary eyes the soul of a small lost child trying to find something that had been taken away from him is what she saw. Helen was shaken by what she had just seen.
Had Mike seen this too? She thought out loud.
Was this Mike’s way of trying to help that lost soul she saw? The love and care that a parent gives openly to an infant was this what Mike was trying to do with both of his sons? Helen could only wonder a loud.
Helen was taken back when Mike said "Yes ... and if you don’t mind can we have some privacy." Helen said quietly that grandma was going to diaper him tonight.
No Mike said he would do it, and he didn’t want to embarrass the boys any further.
"Please let me, I think they need a motherly touch," said Helen.
Mike slowly nodded his head to say yes. Ken started to say something but grandma cut him off with voice that showed caring and understanding, "I have seen it all before when you were younger."
As Helen reached to remove the towel from around Ken’s waist, Helen said quietly, "Now lets get you diapered and ready for bed."
Sometime earlier, Greg had walked into the room only to catch the last part and was not sure what had happened. "Why...What...When did dad tell on us?" Greg asked.
"I found out that both of you were wearing diapers when I gave you hugs this afternoon, but I did not understand why till just now," said Helen.
Helen’s hand meet Ken’s cold hand that was holding the towel so very tight around his waist. Helen reached up to find that Ken was cold like ice and a river of tears running down his face. The little lost soul that Helen had seen in Ken’s eyes was now standing in front of her. The soul was that of a baby, who was crying for its mother for care and warmth. She took Ken into her arms to calm and comfort him. Slowly, the tears stopped as his body warmed up. Helen took one of her hands and wiped the last of the tears out of his eyes.
The towel that Ken was holding on to so tightly was now on the floor around his feet. Helen helped Ken down onto the bed and set about getting him diapered and his nightshirt on before handing him his warm milk to drink.
Mike had taken care of Greg and both boys were now diapered and in bed. Helen picked up the book of bed time stories. Helen started reading the story, it was one that the boys liked when they were young. Mike knew the bed time story by heart, he had read it to them hundreds of times.
The boys drank the milk and kissed their dad and grandma goodnight. Mike took the empty cups downstairs to the kitchen has grandma finished the story.
A short time later Helen came into the kitchen and asked Mike if he had his warm milk too. Mike said no and that there was none left. Helen said that she would make some for both of them.
Mike asked her why she wanted to diaper the boys. "At first I was going to stop you from putting diapers on them, but now I see why you did what you did. At first I did not, but after seeing Ken I now understand, I think. This afternoon you did not tell me that you saw this side of the boys, and if you did I was too shocked by what you were telling me." Helen said as she handed Mike a mug of warm milk to drink before going to bed.
Helen said in a low voice, "I have something to tell you about Paul." "What is it?" asked Mike. Helen looked for the right words to say. "It's that bad?" Asked Mike. Helen shook her head no but said yes. "He has being seeing a doctor for the last three months...and he gets up about five or six times a night to go to the bathroom. Tonight because you are all here he’s...well...ashamed that he would wake you all up with his trips, so he has...a...d...diaper on tonight" She said as her voice fell silent Mike just looked at her and said slowly, "I won’t say a word about it, but I too understand why you did not want the boys to be diapered." Helen nodded her head as to say thank you.
Helen said that she would cleanup the kitchen and see him in the morning Helen kissed Mike goodnight and he was off to bed.
Thursday
Mike woke up to the smell of breakfast cooking. Mike had slept well last night. He thought it must be the sun and fresh air. Mike got out of bed and headed for the closed door. When Mike’s hand touched the door knob he felt the note that was on the handle. Mike blinked his eyes a few times to help them focus on the note. It said "Come as you are to breakfast. The boys have been taken care of this morning. Love Helen."
Mike went to the bathroom and brushed his teeth. He was still not fully awake, when Ken showed up at the bathroom door.
Ken said that breakfast was on and to come on down.
Mike went downstairs and into the kitchen to get some coffee to help wake him up. Helen asked him how he slept last night. Mike said, "like a baby." "I hope not," Helen said with a smile. Mike missed the joke in that statement. She told every one to sit down at the table and that breakfast was served.
Helen had cooked for a small army. It was a full country breakfast. The boys finished everything and still said they were hungry after thirds.
Helen asked the boys to clear the table and when they were done to go outside and play. The three adults sat at the table sipping their second cup of coffee. When the boys left the house, Paul said that he wanted to talk to Mike in private and Helen got up and took her coffee to the kitchen to start cleaning up the breakfast things.
Paul told Mike about his problem and something that Helen did not know, that the country place would have to be sold. "Why?" Mike asked. "Because," Paul said, "I no longer have any hospitalization insurance to speak of, and the pension fund is out of money." The firm that Paul had worked at for thirty years had filed chapter 7 in bankruptcy court. The pension fund was used to pay off the creditors before the court knew that it was the pension fund. So the former employees were left with only social security and that would not cover the bills.
Paul had saved money, but the wedding of their only child used most of that up. Mike asked if Paul knew how much he wanted for the place. It had been in the family for six generations, and Mike and Pam would have made it seven. Paul said that he did not know the true value of the land, and a real-estate agent was checking that for him. Mike knew that he could not buy the place on the open market. The country place had 225 acres of land and land in this area went for $20,000 to $40,000 per acre.
What Paul and Mike did not know was that Helen had come back into the room to get the coffee mugs and had heard what Paul said. Helen made her presence known by telling Paul that the place was NOT for sale and that he was to cancel the real-estate person from coming out. They would get by without selling the place. "If it would help any, I could pay the taxes or a part of them," Mike said. Helen gave him a look that should have killed him. Mike said, "I am only trying to help." "They would not need his help just yet." Helen stated. Then Helen asked Mike if he was planning to spend all day in his PJ’s.
Mike said no and left the table to take a shower and get dressed. Mike packed his overnight bag after he was dressed and carried it downstairs with him. Helen asked if he was in a rush to leave? Mike stated that he was not. Helen and Paul both asked if he and the boys could stay until Sunday. Mike said they would like to, but they only packed for an overnight. Paul’s and Helen’s faces told the whole story they really wanted them to stay. "OK, we will stay," Mike said. "I will go home after lunch pickup some extra clothing for us and come back." They both said, "Great." Mike said that he would let the boys know that they would be staying until Sunday. Helen started laughing and said, "they already know. We talked about it this morning." Helen then told Paul and Mike to go outside and play.
Mike placed the bag in the back seat of the car and then he and Paul went looking for the boys.
The air smelled clean and fresh even though most of the trees between the house and the pond were pine trees. Mike stopped at a white ash and found the mark that he and Pam carved into the tree the night they created Ken. Mike ran his fingers over the marks remembering that night. Paul asked if this is where Mike had asked Pam to marry him. "No, this is the spot where we started our family," Mike said. "If the trees could only talk, and remind us of all the good times we have here," Paul said. Mike just smiled and asked Paul if he remembered the late August night that the four of them went skinny dipping in the pond. "Yes, I do," said Paul.
Greg came running through the spot with Ken close behind. The boys were playing a game of tag and Mike was now it. Mike yelled to the boys that they were staying until Sunday. They were gone as fast as they came.
Paul and Mike started walking again deeper into the woods, remembering the times that were and the time that is now. After some time they came upon the path that lead to the play area and back to the house. Paul stopped and asked Mike "Is this your way of telling us that you found an another woman to marry?" Mike was shocked by what Paul just asked him. Mike said, "No, I have not even dated since the accident. Because I don’t want the pain of loosing a wife and mother, and ... the child ... she was pregnant when it happened. I found out a week after her death." Mike had not told any one that, Paul now missed his daughter and the baby he never knew. "Why did you not tell us?" Paul asked. Mike just looked at Paul with a face that spoke more than just words it showed that Pam was his one and only, and what good would it have done. The two of them walked back to the house via the path in total silence.
When they got to the house Helen said that lunch was ready and the boys were taken care of. Lunch was sandwiches. Helen had cut the boys’ sandwiches into different shapes just the way she did when the boys were three or four years old. In front of Ken’s and Greg’s place at the table were two glasses one filled with milk the other with a juice. The adults had ice tea to go with the lunch. Also on the table was a big bowl of fruit for dessert.
After lunch Mike said that he was off and he would be back for dinner. He also told the boys to be good and do what grandma or grandpa say. Helen said that the boys would be going upstairs for their nap when Mike left. With that said, Mike headed out the door for his trip to home and back.
When Mike got home a police car was parked in the driveway and an officer was at his front door. Mike pulled the car into the driveway and the officer walk towards him. Mike got out of his car and asked the officer if he could help him. The office asked Mike for some identification and Mike got out his driver’s license.
J. Smith was the name on the name tag that the officer was wearing. Officer Smith asked Mike if he knew the ware-a-bouts of Ken and Greg. Mike said that they were with their grandparents and gave the officer the address and phone number of the country place. The officer asked when the boys were taken to that location. Mike said that they went yesterday morning.
Mike asked the officer why the questions? Office Smith said that a group of boys did some damage up at the mall yesterday afternoon. One of the boys was caught and stated that his sons were involved. Mike said, "You can use my phone, if you want to call my in-laws at that number." Officer Smith said, "No not at this time, but we will if any of the others say that your kids were there. Have a good day."
Officer Smith then went to his police car. Mike was glad that Ken and Greg were not involved and that they had gone to the country place.
Mike stopped at the mail box on his way to the front door. In the mail were two report cards, lots of bills and a letter from the school addressed to Mike. Mike opened the report cards and found just passing marks for both boys. Mike then opened the letter from the school. The letter stated that if the grades did not come to a C or better that the boys should take summer school or get a tutor for the summer. The boys would be tested in the fall and if they failed to get a C or better on the test, they would be held back a grade. Mike looked at the two report cards again a saw that the last quarter both boy's grades had slipped way down and failed most subjects.
Mike called the phone number on the letter to set-up summer school classes. Mike found out that the person answering the phone was one of Greg’s teachers. Mike asked the teacher what happened and why were the grades so low. The teachers answer shocked Mike. A group of boys were cutting class and creating problems at the local mall, but he was sent a letter telling him that. Mike thanked the teacher for the information and said he would set-up schooling for the boys with a tutor.
Mike then packed a suitcase with clothing for the three of them for the next three days. Mike also packed the report cards and the letter from the school. Mike went to pack more diapers but only found the baby diapers that he was using inside their other diapers. Mike made a note to pick up more diapers on his way back to the country place.
Before Mike left he set the weekly trash out. Four bags of trash this week. Four very smelly bags of trash.
As Mike was just about ready to leave, the phone rang and he answered it. On the phone was Paul checking to see if Mike was OK. Mike asked why Paul had called. Paul told him that the police had just called checking on the boys and what time they had seen them yesterday, but would not say why. Paul and Helen feared that maybe something had happened to Mike, but were glad to head his voice on the phone. Mike told them that some kids got into trouble at the mall, and named his kids as part of the group. Mike asked if they needed any thing from the store. Helen said no and for him to drive safely. Mike said that he would, and he would see them in about two hours. Mike hung up the phone, then pick up the locked suitcase and headed for the car locking the front door behind him.
Mike placed the suitcase in the trunk of the car.
On his way he stopped at drug store and pickup more diapers, lotion and powder and placed the bags also in the trunk. One more stop for gas and Mike was on his way back to the country place.
From start to finish Mike was gone for five hours that was not bad.
As Mike pulled the car up to the house, Paul and the boys appeared from the back of the house. The boys had no shirts on and the tops of their plastic pants showed above the waist band of the shorts. Mike opened the trunk from inside the car before getting out. By this time Paul and the boys were at the driver’s door. The boys did not look real happy, Mike told them to take the things out of the trunk, and take them upstairs and wait for him there. By this time Helen was standing in the door way checking to make sure Mike was OK.
Paul’s face showed questions that needed answers. The first question had not jelled into words yet. Mike asked for fifteen minutes and then a family meeting at the dinner table. Helen and Paul shook their heads to say OK. This was the way that Pam had come up with to deal with questions and problems as a family. The method worked well, and this was a family problem.
Mike went into the house and up the stairs. Mike did not ask if the boys needed their diapers changed. He checked as any parent would a small child that could not speak. Mike then sent the boys down stairs to wait for the family meeting.
When the boys had left, Mike unlocked the suitcase and removed the report cards and the letter from the school. Then Mike made a quick stop in the bathroom. As Mike was washing his hands he wondered if he had done the right thing with the boys. Mike sighed, "How could I have missed this," looking into the mirror over the sink. Mike picked up the papers and headed to his place at the table.
Mike was the last one to be seated, but the first one to talk. Mike reminded the boys to tell the truth. A look of fear came across the faces of the boys for only a split second. Mike started by asking about the kids that came to door on Wednesday. Ken and Greg said that they were just friends, real cool friends. Mike asked how long they knew them. The answer was three months or so. Mike then asked if the boys cut any classes at school. They both said no. Mike asked if they remembered the taste of the bar of soap? They both said yes they did. Mike again asked if they cut any classes? This time the answer was yes. Mike reminded them that lying got them this punishment, and if they lied again he would have no choice. He would treat every thing they do and say as a lie. Mike asked if the boys understood what he said. They said yes.
Mike told them that the police were looking for them for the trouble that they were involved in at the mall yesterday afternoon. Ken and Greg said that they were not at the mall yesterday afternoon because they were here fishing and playing. Mike said, "See what lying does, your ‘cool’ friends said that you were with them." Both boys and grandparents sat there looking at each other.
Mike set the two report cards and the letter on the table and said, "second point is. You both failed to take a test to pass to the next grade level. Your grade point average is under a C." Mike pointed to the letter and stated that the boys would need summer school or a private tutor to get to the next grade level. Helen was mad, Pam had been a very good student, so had the boys up until now. Mike said he knew now, that he knew things that he wished he didn’t know.
Maybe he was a bad parent, and he should not have punished them with diapers and other baby things. After, all it is their lives and their choices. Why should he care if they want to wear diapers, create trouble and end up in jail, or flunk out of school? Mike got up from the table and headed for the door.
Paul had some questions that he wanted answers to. Very hard questions that started with why.
About twenty minutes later Helen came outside. Mike was sitting on the old tractor with his back to the house. Helen asked Mike to come back in and take his place at the table. Mike came back in slowly, like a man that would not see this path again.
Mike sat at his place at the table, fearing that he and his sons would be told to leave. That was not yet the case. Helen, with the wisdom of motherhood, spoke. "The boys at heart are good, with souls that are torn between childhood and adulthood, with fears that we did not have to face at their age. Mike you are wanting to protect them from harm is noble. You found them acting as babies, and you showed them that you are willing to care for them, and love them unconditionally as if they were only a day old. However they are not. They will do things to test that love. It's a hard job to raise a child with two parents, and a harder job to raise a child with one parent. But you already know this."
As Helen spoke the soft words of wisdom, Mike knew that he stepped over the line. Yes, he was the adult and his boys are entering manhood and not babyhood. Helen also stated that she was wrong in taking care of the boys because they did not ask for her help, just her understanding.
After a few seconds that felt like a few minutes, Greg said, "Grandma and grandpa are willing to help us study for the test if you can get them the list of books that are needed. It would be after the 4th of July and we would like to study here."
Ken sat looking at his father with eyes that seemed to question if he heard the words and feeling that were being spoken to him.
Paul was the last one to speak, "Mike, you stated that the choices the boys make are theirs, and that it is their life. But you made this choice and it was not to keep it in the dark, or yell at them, but to embarrass them. Right or wrong. We know that you were only trying to help. ... Some times we try so hard to do the correct thing that we fail, and do more harm than good. I, too, am at fault for doing it, we as parents try so hard but some times doing nothing or saying nothing works better. This end my speech to you Mike. Ken and Greg, you both know that cutting class and going to the mall would one day catch up to you. That was your choice. We are willing to help you both if and only if you want it. This, too, is your choice. I, too, made the choice to wear diapers at night, because of need and not want. You boys opted for want, again your choice. When your father found out, you choice was to lie. A lie that was not to hurt any one just cover up the truth. A lie to give you time to find the reason, but all things in life do not have clear reasons. Your father may have gone to far, but he has, for the most part, treated you at your current age barring the diapers. Is this not true? Helen..." Paul’s voice fell silent. The looks that passed between them said more than words would ever say. The look of disappointment in Paul’s eyes has he looked at Helen and then Mike then each of the boys. The room was quiet as each person thought over what had been said.
Ken was the first to get up from the table, and he walked over to his grandpa and gave him a hug. Ken turned and gave his grandma a hug and a kiss then left the room. Greg followed Ken out of the room. Helen and Paul left as Mike sat at the table feeling that the world had stopped again on him.
After about twenty minutes, Mike got up from the table and found some paper and a pen. With the needed items Mike wrote three apology letters, One to both Helen and Paul, and one each to his sons. Mike left the folded letters on the table with the names facing up.
He went upstairs to the boy’s room and pickup his clothing. The room was a mess, and on the floor were the plastic pants and the diapers that the boy’s had been wearing at the end of the family meeting. Mike went to his room and put his things away. The house had the silence of loss. The type of silence that forces one to look back and see only sad times.
Mike decided to take a walk in the wood to help try to put this behind him, and to start looking forward. Mike ended up at the play area. He sat on one of the tire swings looking over what had been a fun place. "Just yesterday the boys played here, they even built a sand castle. Was I wrong in doing it?" Mike said aloud for the trees to hear. Mike started walking again, only his feet knew where they were going as they went deeper into the woods.
The full moon was up by the time Mike got back to the house and dinner had been served. Mike apologized for being so late to dinner and took his place at the table. Not a lot was said at the table.
After the meal was over, Ken asked to be excused from the table. Helen gave him the OK to leave the table. When Ken stood up the front of his trousers were wet. Ken blushed with embarrassment as he ran upstairs. Helen got a towel to dry up the wet mess in the seat of the wooden chair.
Mike waited for a moment before going upstairs. He found that the door to the boy’s bedroom was closed so he knocked. "Who is there?" Ken asked. "Your father, can I come in?" Mike asked. Mike waited for an answer. Ken did not answer.
After a short moment Mike opened the bedroom door. Ken said that he did not want his father there and for him to get out. Mike entered the room any way and shut the door behind him. Ken was mad at himself and mad that his father did not go away. Ken said, "I didn’t want you, leave, just leave me alone. You created this mess, are you happy? Just get out of my life." Mike let Ken say what was on his mind in his fit of anger, hoping he would calm down.
Mike grabbed Ken by the arms and pulled him close to his chest and hugged him until he stopped fighting him. Mike said that he was sorry for the way things turned out, that he was wrong in treat his sons this way. That he does love them no matter what they say or do, he is their father and because of that fact, nothing they do will break that love.
Mike let Ken go and said, "You know what you need to do so go do it." Ken headed for the bathroom to get cleaned up. Mike left the room behind Ken and went downstairs.
Paul gave Mike a look that questioned what he had just done. Mike stated that Ken was getting cleaned up and would be down later.
Mike went to help Helen in the kitchen with the dishes.
After the dishes were done, Helen poured coffee into the three mugs. Mike carried a mug of coffee for Paul into the family room.
Paul and the boys had found a game that they all would play tonight. Mike picked up on the scent of baby powder. When Ken moved the soft noise of plastic back sheet of the disposable diaper could be heard. No one said a word about it.
The game ended at around ten o’clock that night and with that every one said goodnight and went to bed.
Mike was the last one through the bathroom that night because he needed to take a shower.
When Mike was done in the bathroom he headed for his room passing by the half closed door of he boy’s room. Mike stopped and looked in on his two sons that were a sleep. Mike very softly said, "Goodnight guys, pleasant dreams." Mike closed the bedroom door and went to his room and went to bed.
Friday
Mike was awake with the sun this morning, and out of bed just as fast. He was dressed before leaving the room and doing his morning things.
Mike then went to the kitchen and made the morning coffee. He also washed the mugs and glasses from last night as the coffee was brewing. Mike poured his first cup of coffee, and took it outside with him to meet the new morning.
Helen scared Mike when she said good morning to him. His back was to the door and he had not seen or heard Helen coming. Helen asked if he was jumpy this very beautiful morning. "No, you just scared me that’s all." Mike said.
The two of them finished their coffee without saying another word, just watching the sun climb higher in the morning sky.
Helen said that breakfast would be cereal and milk this morning. Helen went back inside the house to set up breakfast.
Helen asked if Mike would get the others up as they were wasting away this beautiful day by sleeping in. Mike’s first stop was the boy’s room. The door has still shut from last night. Mike opened the door and walked into the room. Both boys were a sleep. Each hugging a stuffed animal in their arms. The stuffed animals were the ones they had when they were little kids. Pam had put the stuffed animal away in the attic years ago. She said that big boys do not sleep with stuffed animal and that they were big boys. Both of them had kick off the top sheet and expose that they had both wore diapers to bed. Mike could see that both of the boys had at some time last night used their diapers. Mike walked back to the doorway of the bedroom. He then knocked on the half open door and said "Good morning guys. Time to get up." Greg opened his eyes to see Mike standing in the doorway. Greg hurled the stuffed animal to the floor, as if not to be caught holding such a thing from his young childhood. Then Greg tried to hide that he had worn a diaper to bed. Mike reached for the doorknob and pulled the door shut. "Breakfast is on the table, get a move on." Mike said. Mike then moved on to the room where Paul was sleeping. Mike knocked on the door and told Paul that breakfast was served.
Mike headed back down to the kitchen to help Helen set up the breakfast.
With in a few minutes both Ken and Greg were at the table. A few minutes after that, Paul was also at the table.
Over breakfast Paul asked if the boys wanted their help to study for the big test. Both boys said yes. Paul said that he would be going into town after breakfast to get some seeds to plant a garden, and underwear for the boys. Paul’s tone of voice changed and had a bite to it.
Ken thanked is grandpa for the help, but after last night’s accident he would stay with the diapers. Paul’s face showed disappointment with the fact the Ken would stay in diapers. Ken stated that the diapers were his choice, and now that it was in the open why try to hide from it.
Greg said that he would go with grandpa because he didn’t want to be in diapers, he was and adult. Mike did not say a word about what he saw that morning. It was not his place to do that.
Helen asked about the garden, and who was going to take care of it. "Since the boys will be here to study, they can help take care of the garden," Paul said. The rest of breakfast was spent on deciding what they would grow this summer.
After breakfast Paul went and got cleaned up and dressed for the day. Greg did the same. Soon the two of them were off to town to buy seeds for the garden and underwear for Greg. Ken helped in clearing away the breakfast dishes from the table. Helen washed the dishes. Ken dried them. Mike put them away.
After the dishes were done, and Paul and Greg had gone into town, Ken went and got dressed. Mike went to the bathroom as the early morning coffee went through him like beer.
On Mike’s way back downstairs Ken called to him. Mike went to the bedroom door and asked Ken what he needed. Ken asked that his father come in, and shut the door behind him. Ken apologized for his action's yesterday afternoon and for all the trouble he caused yesterday. Ken told Mike how grandpa found out that his grandsons were in diapers. "Grandpa was upset that the police had called. He had come into the room to ask what we knew, and he saw us the diapers and every thing. He was very mad at the time." Ken also told Mike some of the things said at the family meeting while he was outside.
Ken then cleared his throat and asked if his father "would you be so kind as to ... aah ..." Mike asked if Ken would like him to leave the room. Ken shook his head no. Ken’s eyes were darting between Mike and the bag of diapers on the floor. Mike waited for Ken to say something. "Oh heck, dad will you please ..." Ken said taking a deep breath, "change me." Mike looked at Ken and said, "Only you can change you, and how you are, I can’t do that." "Not that change, I mean my ... diaper, like before," said Ken. "Only if you are positively sure. I --" Mike said. Ken cutting him off said, "Yes. Why are you making this so hard dad?" "Because I want you to be sure. I was wrong in treating you this way," Mike said. "But I did it. You only helped me to be open about it. Please dad, please understand, please, please," said Ken. "OK. Let’s get your diaper changed," Mike said. Mike set about the task of changing Ken’s wet diaper. As Mike was changing Ken’s diaper Ken asked "Did you ever think that you would be changing my diapers again? I mean before last Friday." "After the time you were four, no, I did not. By that time you and your brother both told us you didn’t need diapers. It’s funny, in a very odd way, that you both ended up back in them. All done," said Mike. Ken sat up.
"Are you disappointed with us?" asked Ken. Mike sat on the bed next to Ken. "Disappointed more that you didn’t trust me, but I will always love you. I may not understand why you do something. But I will support you, as long as there is no harm to life. That is not to say that you can go out and rob a bank," said Mike. "You have not asked why the diapers," questioned Ken. "Well?" Said Mike. "I don’t know. I know that is not a reason, but it is the truth," said Ken. "That is not the reason you stated earlier to me. You said that ‘it reminded you of the good times with mom,’" said Mike. "But grandpa said that is not a reason, but an excuse," stated Ken. "It’s your reason. Only you can understand why," said Mike. "As your father, I trust you to do those things that are right, and do those things that bring you happiness."
The two of them sat next to each other on the bed. Mike holding Ken tightly to his body as if he would float away if not held on to.
After a few moments, Mike let go of his tight hold on Ken. Ken did not pull away. He stayed tight against Mike’s chest as if held there by an unseen force. This lasted only for a moment. A knock on the bedroom door broke the hold.
Helen asked if every thing was OK. Mike said yes. Helen then asked if they would hand her the wastebasket so she could empty it. Mike got up and took the wastebasket to the door and handed it to Helen.
As Mike started to leave the bedroom, Ken said, "Dad, thank you, thank you for understanding." Mike closed the door behind him as he left without saying a word.
It was about two hours later when Paul and Greg got back. Greg went upstairs to change out of his diapers and into his new underwear. Paul handed Ken a small package for him to open.
Ken opened the small package. Inside were two items. The first was an appointment card. The second item was underwear. The appointment card stated that Ken had an appointment tomorrow at eleven o’clock with Dr. Ash. "Who is Dr. Ash?" Ken asked. "You will find out tomorrow at eleven o’clock," said Paul. "Does this Dr. Ash have something to do with your disapproval of Ken’s choice to use diapers?" Mike asked. Paul didn’t answer the question. Instead, he told Ken to change out of his diapers and into the underwear. Mike told Ken to stay put. Mike then went after Paul with the same type of words that Paul used on Mike the other day. Mike told Paul that he was now forcing his will on Ken. And that Paul had not taken the time to ask Ken what he wanted. And if Ken wanted or needed to make an appointment with a doctor, that it was Ken’s place to do that, and not his unless asked. Paul came back with it was not normal that a person of Ken’s age would want to wear diapers.
Paul then stated that Greg was forced into diapers and because of him he is now free of them. "Greg was not forced into diapers. He and Ken have both stated that," stated Mike. "I feel that you don’t believe them or me. All you see is two teenage boys that don’t meet your definition of normal. OK I will give the fact that not every child that enters adulthood goes through this stage, but it is normal for some. I hate to think how you see me," Mike snarled. "Don’t use that tone of voice on me Mike, not in my home," stated Paul. "Ken, go get changed now," said Paul. "No! Ken, do what you want, if it’s to wear diapers, or if it’s underwear fine, but it’s your choice. Not mine or grandpa’s," said Mike. "I will not tolerate my grandson wearing diapers," said Paul. "Mike you are a bad parent because you did not stop them, but helped them back into ... diapers. They’re not babies but teenage boys. Teenagers do not wear diapers!"
Mike took a deep breath and let it out slowly. "So the truth comes out. Yesterday at the family meeting you did not assert this position. What you said yesterday must not have been how you indeed feel. For if it were, you would not have done all of this." Mike stated in a calm voice. Paul looked at Mike and realized that his actions, words and feelings did not agree with each other. Paul left the room without saying a word.
Ken went to the telephone, and dialed the number on the appointment card. Ken told the person answering the telephone who he was and that he wanted to cancel the appointment. Ken started talking to the person on the telephone. Mike left the room to let Ken have some privacy while he was on the telephone.
Mike found Greg on the porch going over the different seed packages trying to find out how big the garden would have to be made. Mike asked Greg how he was coming, with the order in which the seeds were to by planted and the light needed for each. "I know that." Greg said while gave his dad a dirty look. Mike excused himself and went to the bathroom.
On his way back Mike noticed that the package of underwear on Greg’s bed was unopened. Ken was still on the phone. Mike went into the bedroom and took a quick count of plastic pants, and found that there were only two clean pairs in the bag. The laundry bag was empty. Mike looked out the window and found that four of them were hanging on the line to dry with the other wash that Helen had done today. Ken had on his plastic pants, so that was one plastic pant missing. Mike wondered if Greg was diapered or not, but Greg had done his thing. Had Greg played them all?
Mike knew that Greg was a master at getting his own way. As Mike left the bedroom he heard Ken say good bye and the faint sound of the telephone hand-set hitting the cradle, as Ken hung up the telephone.
Ken was out on the porch with his brother going over the seeds by the time Mike was down the stairs.
Then came an ominous sound followed by a high pitch yelling from Helen. Paul had tried to start the old tractor only to send a cloud of thick black oily smoke over Helen’s clean wash.
The old tractor had not been started in five or six years, as far as Mike knew. The last time the tractor had been started, it had taken a half of a day of hard work to get it started.
After Helen was done yelling at Paul, he came and asked if Mike and the guys would help push the tractor down wind of the drying laundry. It had not taken much to get the tractor out, as it was all down hill. This move would need help, as it would be up the small hill and down the other side.
Greg stated that the garden would be eight by ten feet and they really wouldn’t need the tractor. Grandpa asked if Greg wanted to spend all day turning over the ground. Greg said no. Grandpa said then we will need the tractor. Mike under his breath said, "If it ever starts."
The five of them pushed the tractor clear of the laundry and well away from anything that thick smoke would hurt. Paul then got his tools. He and Mike started working on the tractor. Greg and Ken laid out the size of the garden in a flat spot in the yard well away from the clothesline and the drying laundry.
The tractor finally started. After some fresh fuel, the spark plugs had been cleaned, and a can of starting fluid added.
By the time lunch was ready the tractor was running, and the first pass through the new garden was done. Mike was the first one to come in for lunch.
After Mike had gotten cleaned up Greg was the next to come in. As Greg exited the bathroom Mike asked him to follow him. Mike went into the boy’s bedroom and asked Greg to close the door when he came in. Mike said that Greg should change his diaper, as a wet and/or dirty diaper would lead to a bad case of diaper rash. Greg said that he was not wearing a diaper but underwear that his grandpa had gotten for him. Mike held up the unopened pack of underwear. Greg’s face went white, and he said "Oh shit."
Mike said, "It looks like you can’t take care of yourself. So I will." Mike had Greg on his back on the bed in a blink of an eye. Mike had Greg’s pants down to his ankles in half the time it took him to be on the bed. Mike found the missing plastic pant on Greg. Greg was not diapered as Mike had thought. Greg had nothing on under the plastic pants, but that would soon change.
Mike removed Greg’s shoes, pants and the hot and sticky plastic pants. Mike cleaned up Gregs diaper area with a wipe, then applied the lotion very carefully. Greg’s penis was very big and hard and Mike did not want to give Greg any ideas, or create any.
Greg was acting like a toddler that did not want his diaper changed. Mike was able to keep Greg off balance as he worked. By the time the diaper was half on Greg gave up the fight.
Greg asked how his dad found out that didn’t have the underwear on. Mike said that he counted the number of plastic pants and came up one short, and the unopened package of underwear. Greg said oh. Greg then asked what happened to his choice. He wants to wear plastic pants and not diapers and plastic pants. Mike told Greg that he lost his right to choice because he used it to deceive them.
By the time Mike was done with Greg, Ken walked into the room and was a little shocked to see Greg back in diapers. Mike asked if Ken needed any help with his diapers. Ken said, "yes" in a tone that showed relief. Mike said that he would be with Ken in a moment. Mike got out a clean pair of plastic pants and put them on Greg. Then Mike helped Greg put on a clean pair of shorts so he could go down to lunch in them.
Mike then went about changing Ken’s very wet diaper. Ken had wet so much that the diaper had over flowed. Ken’s plastic pants were heavy with the over flow. Mike did his best to keep the majority of the pee in the plastic pant as he helped Ken take them off. Once the plastic pants were off Mike set them in the wastebasket and set about removing Kens very wet diaper. Ken had not only wet his diaper, he also had messed in it. Mike went about getting Ken’s wet and messy bottom cleaned up as he told Ken that he was a very good boy. Mike also told Ken that he should let his daddy know when his diaper is wet so that he could change it for him. "Yes daddy," Ken said almost laughing in a high tone of voice. Mike started to laugh and so did Ken. Mike noticed that Ken was calm, his whole body was.
The lotion, the powder even the diapers, nothing moved. It was as if Ken were a baby, and a diaper change is away of life. Mike got a clean pair of plastic pants out of the bag. Mike placed Ken’s feet through the waist opening of the plastic pants and then one foot through each leg opening. Ken was in a daydream type state sucking his thumb when Mike had him standup so he could pull the plastic pants up and over the diaper. Mike had Ken get dressed and go downstairs to lunch.
Mike took the wastebasket over the bathroom and drained its liquid contents into the toilet. Mike also rinsed out both pairs of plastic pants in the sink before going back to the boy’s room.
Mike put the wet plastic pants in the empty dirty laundry bag. Mike then went back to the bathroom to wash his hands before going downstairs for lunch.
At lunch Paul asked if Greg was happy being out of diapers. Greg said that he did not have that choice, and that his dad had put him back in to diapers. Mike cut Paul and Greg off and stated the fact that the package of underwear was still unopened and that Greg had only worn the plastic pants and not underwear since they got back. Paul asked if it was true. Greg shook his head to say yes. Paul looked and Mike and said, "They are your kids, maybe you were right." For the rest of the lunch no one said a word.
Helen broke the silence by asking Greg to help her with the dishes. Greg said OK and started to clear the table. The others went back to working the soil in the garden.
It was the best part of two hours later when Greg came out to help work on the garden. Mike could see that Greg had been crying but did not ask why or for what reason. The soil in the garden was a very dark brown and very fine almost like sand, and not like the chunks in the first pass before lunch. Greg was surprised when grandpa asked him what seeds were to be planted first. Greg said that he would have to go get the seeds and he would be right back.
As Greg ran off to get the seeds Helen yelled that refreshments were ready. The three of them started walking to the house to get something cold to drink. The sun was high and hot and the shade on the porch looked inviting. On the way Mike asked Ken if he needed/wanted his diaper changed? Ken said that it would be a good thing to do after they had their refreshment.
Greg was on his way back by the time they reached the back porch. Mike called to Greg and told him they were on a short break. Mike also asked Greg if he needed his diaper changed. Helen answered the question with firm no. Her statement got looks from Mike, Ken and Paul.
Mike wanted to ask what had happened, but thought better it. Paul on the other hand demanded to know what Helen had done. Helen said that it was between her and Greg and would/could not say.
After the guys had their short break on the porch. Ken said that he would catch up with them in a few moments and went inside. Paul, Mike and Greg headed back to the garden. Helen took the empty glass to the kitchen. A few minutes later Helen and Ken came walking out to the garden.
The first row had been planted. It was flowers. The flowers that were planted are to help keep away the bad bugs.
Greg was planting the second row. It was carrots. Greg very carefully took one seed at a time and placed it in the row. He would then move down the about four inches and place the next seed. When the row was planted Greg would gently cover the seeds with soil. Mike and Paul were making the third and forth rows.
Greg planted all the seeds row by row, seed by seed it took him the rest of the day to it. The others had left Greg to plant the seeds, as they went about doing other things.
Before the last light of the sunset had faded, the garden hose came out to water the newly planted garden. Greg took great pride in his work. It was a dark night and the only light was the pools of light coming from the windows and the open door ways of the house. Helen was holding the family dinner until Greg came in for the night. When Greg did come in, he went straight upstairs to the bathroom to get cleaned up for dinner.
Mike went upstairs to check on Greg when the water stopped running. Greg was it the top of the stairs as Mike came up. Mike could see the ground on dirt down Greg’s bare legs. Mike turned Greg around and took him back to the bathroom. Greg stated that his hands were clean and he wanted to eat dinner. Mike said that he was to dirty to sit at the table and he should take a shower to get clean.
Greg slowly took off his dirty clothes and handed them to his dad. Greg removed his plastic pants which were also covered with dirt and handed them to his dad. Greg asked his dad to leave before he would remove his diaper. Mike said "No. I will leave only when you are in the shower. So off with your diaper now. The longer you take here the later dinner will be." Greg’s back was turned to his dad and very, very slowly he removed his wet diapers and let it drop to the floor.
Greg stepped into the shower and pulled the curtain closed behind him. Mike handed Greg his washcloth over the top of the show curtain. Mike rolled up the wet diaper and took it and the dirty clothes back to the boy’s room. Mike put the dirty clothes into the laundry bag and the dirty diaper in the wastebasket.
Mike set out the needed items and Greg’s PJ’s. Mike noticed that the stuffed animals were sitting on the pillows of each bed. Mike headed that the water had stopped in the shower.
A few minutes later Greg walked into the bedroom with a towel wrapped around his waist and his hair dripping wet and dripping water on the floor. Greg did not put up a fight as his dad took the towel from his waist and started to dry his wet hair with it.
Greg tried to fight his dad on the diapers, but gave up when Mike told him it would be diapers and dinner or diapers and no dinner if he fought him. Mike got Greg diapered and clean pair of plastic pants on him before Helen stated that dinner was ready. Mike helped Greg into his PJ’s then combed his damp hair. Mike sent Greg to the dinner table as he went to the bathroom to wash his hands.
Mike made it to the dinner table as Helen brought the last dish out of the kitchen. Dinner was pork roast with stuffing, gravy, peas with mint, apples with cinnamon and brown sugar and a tossed salad. Dessert was cookies and ice cream.
After dinner Helen and Paul did the dishes. Ken took his shower. Greg fell a sleep in a chair in the family room.
Mike got Ken diapered after his shower and set for bed. Helen brought a sleepy Greg upstairs to put him to bed. Helen helped Greg into bed and tucked him in. She kissed him goodnight and then tucked his stuffed animal under his arm. Greg was a sleep in a second.
Helen asked Mike if she could have one of the baby diapers. Mike said sure but why? Helen said that she did not want to do laundry tomorrow because of Paul’s diaper leaking sometime in the night. Mike gave her a baby diaper and an under pad for the bed. Helen thanked him for the items and kissed Ken goodnight. It had been a long day and an early night seemed to be the right thing to do. Mike said goodnight to Ken as he left the room. Ken said goodnight and turned the light off that was on the night stand between the two beds.
Mike could hear Paul putting up a fight over the second diaper, and the under pad. Helen told Paul that she would not do laundry tomorrow, and that he was going to wear both diapers and use the under pad. Paul made it known that he would not wear the diapers. He would get up and uses the bathroom when he needed to but no diapers and that was final.
A door slammed against the wall and then a knock on Mike’s door. Mike said come in. It was Helen very red in the face, and mad at grandpa for the extra work he was creating for her. All she kept saying is, "why does he do this. Every night, the same thing. Get up, come back, get up, come back, etc., in the morning a wet bed. Then your coming here, he got a bag of eighth diapers so not to disturb you all, at last a dry bed and sleep. Then he finds that his grandsons are in diapers and then no more diapers for him, just that more laundry for me to do. The boys are so easy to diaper, no fighting no problems, but him ... fight, problems, why. If the operation doesn’t work he will ... " Helen started to cry at the fear of what might be.
Mike held her in his arms as she sobbed. He gave her time, just like she did when he told her about the boys. Mike told her that the boys wanted to wear diapers and that Paul has a need, but if he gives in then he would feel that he lost the fight. You needed to reassure him that he has not lost the fight. That the diapers let him get a goodnight sleep, and the bed stays dry, so he is not embarrassed. And if you really love him let him know that. Helen looked at Mike and stated that she really did love him with all of her heart. Mike said, "Don’t tell me, tell him." Helen asked Mike how he got so smart. He said "Pam." Helen kissed Mike goodnight then left.
Mike could hear noises coming from Paul and Helen’s room but not what was being said. Soon the house was quiet and Mike was a sleep.
Saturday
The boys were up before any of the adults and were down stairs playing a game. Their dad was the next one up and found them sitting at the table playing the game. The game was for children up to the age of six, so said the lid of the box.
Mike made his way into the kitchen. Mike found that a fresh pot of coffee had been made, and that three mugs had also set out. Mike poured himself a mug of coffee. He took his coffee back into the room where the boys were. Mike took a seat and said good morning. The guys said good morning back to him.
Mike asked if he could have their attention for a few moments. The guys put down the game pieces and looked at him with a look that said how what did we do. "I do not know were to start, but here goes. As you all ready know, grandpa is going to have an operation. On the very off chance that it does not work, grandpa will have to wear diapers for the rest of his life. He is very afraid of this," Mike said, then taking a sip of the hot coffee. "I did not know about any of this until we were here. Last night as Ken knows, grandma asked for one of the baby diapers which I gave her. Grandpa ... well he hit the roof when grandma tried to put it on him." Mike said in a soft voice. "I thought you both should know just in case." Mike sipped at his coffee that did not want to cool down to a drinkable temperature.
Both of the boys sat looking at their dad waiting for him to say something more. After a few moments they went back to playing the game. Mike sat at the table a watched his two sons at play.
A short while later Paul came down to make the coffee, and to surprise his wife with it. To the total shock of Mike and the boys, grandpa had on the top of his PJ’s and a diaper. Grandpa’s face turned a light shade of red as he saw the looks on their faces. Greg was the first to speak, "Grandpa, don’t be embarrassed, we all understand. We are family and we love you." Paul patted Greg on the head as he passed, heading into the kitchen.
Mike got up from the table and followed Paul into the kitchen. "I know that this is hard on you and that you probably thought we were all in bed a sleep. What Greg said is the truth," stated Mike. "I had hoped that you would not see me this way. I am an adult and I should not be in diapers, but I am ... am like a baby at night, no control at all." Paul said in a very shy voice just at a whisper and with a very bright red face. At that point the kitchen door opened and the boys came into the kitchen. Tears started to run down grandpa bright red face. Mike felt a little odd as he took Paul into a hug to calm his fears. The boys joined in and Paul started crying.
It was impossible to make out any of the words that Paul was trying to say. Mike held him tightly in his arms, like a parent holds a child in fear. The fear that Mike felt was the fear that Paul maybe having a nervous break down in his arms.
After a few minutes Paul stopped crying and tried to wipe away the remaining tears from his eyes. When Mike felt it was safe he let go of his hold. Grandpa apologized for his actions. Mike told him that he did not need to apologize. Paul said that he did. Mike so badly wanted to wipe away the other tears on Paul’s face but did not.
One of the boys had poured a mug of coffee for grandpa.
All of them went in to the other room and sat down at the table. Paul tried to sip the hot coffee but then just set the mug down on the table. "I am such a jerk! I have put off this operation out of fear. You and the boys showed me that even if it does not work that you all will understand. You were right Mike ... I was forcing my will on the boys in hope that my problem would go away. Ken, Greg, thank you." Paul said looking into the black of the coffee. The unspoken male rule would not be broken. No one would talk about what had happen this morning to any one.
After a short while, Paul got up and went into the kitchen. He then came back out with a fresh mug of coffee and went upstairs. Mike had noticed that the boys were still in last night diapers by the way their PJ’s bulged in the diaper area. Mike made the suggestion that the guys get changed and dressed for the day. The guys just continued to play the game.
It was about an hour later when Helen came downstairs. She said good morning and gave Mike a kiss on the side of his cheek. She then ordered the boys to clear the game off the table and for all of them to get dressed while she fixed breakfast. The boys started to clear away the game as Helen went into the kitchen.
When the game was put a way, Mike and the boys went upstairs. The beds in the boys' room were made with their stuffed animals sitting on top of the pillows, and the needed items neatly placed on the night stand between the two beds. An under pad was laid out on top of each bed. The boys took their showers and waited for their dad to change them. This morning there were no fights, words, just cooperation.
The aroma of cooking bacon filled the house as Mike and the boys were getting dressed.
The three of them went downstairs at about the same time. The table had been set and where the boys sit were a large glass of milk and juice for each of them. Paul was bringing plates of food out from the kitchen, if the boys were to leave the table hungry this morning it would be their own fault and not Helen’s.
After breakfast Greg and Ken said that they would wash and dry the breakfast dishes. Grandma did not turn down their offer. As the boys cleared away the breakfast dishes Helen started making a grocery list. It had been sometime that she had feed five people and with two of them being teenage boys, that were bottomless pits, the list grew quickly. Mike pointed out that they would be leaving tomorrow. Helen reminded Mike that they would be back in July and most of the items on her list would keep.
When Helen was done with the grocery list, she went and found an old sheet and a pair of scissors and told Mike to cut it into strips. Helen stated that the birds had been eating the seeds that were planted yesterday.
By the time Mike had cut the sheet into strips Ken and Greg had finished with the breakfast dishes and came back into the room. Mike handed Greg the strips of cut cloth and told him that they were for the garden to keep the birds away from the seeds that he planted yesterday. Greg knew where the string and some wooden stakes were in the shed, so he and his brother went off to finish the garden.
Helen and Paul left to go to the grocery store.
Mike got the last cup of coffee and went and sat on the back porch. From the porch he could see his sons working together in the garden. He wondered if Pam was watching over all of them. She must be Mike thought as the shadow of a cloud just missed the edge of garden.
When the boys were finished working in the garden, they disappeared into the woods. The boys had spent a lot of time in the woods over the years of coming to the country place. Ken and Greg had built forts, camped out at night, had played games in the woods and swam in the pond.
Mike got up from his spot on the porch floor and took the empty coffee cup with him back inside the house. In the kitchen, Mike put his cup in the sink and found a trash bag and set off to empty all of the wastebaskets.
When Mike had finished emptying the wastebaskets upstairs he headed for the stairs, at the bottom of the stairs was Greg. "I need to be changed." Greg said in a voice that showed it could not wait. "Then come on up and I will change you." Mike said. "That is the problem ... if I come up, ‘it’ will run down my legs." Greg stated in a shy voice and with a red face. "Then go outside and wait for me by the back porch." Mike said. Greg headed outside. Mike went to the boy’s room and got the items that he would need to change his son.
Greg had taken off his shorts and shoes by the time his dad came out the door onto the back porch. Mike could now see what ‘it’ was through Greg’s plastic pants and it was a big mess. Mike set down the item that he had brought down with him. Mike laid the under pad out on the porch floor and had Greg lie down on it. Mike removed Greg’s socks before removing the plastic pants. Greg had a major case of diarrhea and his diaper could not handle it all. Mike removed the messy diaper, and told Greg not to move. Mike said that he would be back with more wipes to clean him up with. Mike went and got the box of wipes and a clean under pad.
When Mike got back with the extra supplies he cleaned up Greg’s diaper area and both of his legs and feet. Mike then had Greg standup, and stand in the sun to dry off for a few minutes. Mike wrapped the dirty diaper and wipes in the used under pad and placed the new pad on the floor. Greg’s face was growing redder with embarrassment as he stood their naked from the waist down.
After about two minutes, Mike was ready to put a clean diaper on Greg. Mike had Greg lie back down. Mike applied a healthy amount of diaper rash cream to Greg’s bottom and in between his legs. Mike then powdered Greg’s diaper area both front and back. Mike then placed a baby diaper inside Greg’s regular diaper. Greg asked if he was being sent to bed. Mike asked Greg why he was asking that question. Greg said because you are making me wear an overnight diaper, what did I do wrong that you are sending me to bed. As Mike went about diapering Greg, Greg could feel that the baby diaper was over his bottom and not his penis. Mike said that he was not sending Greg to bed but just giving him more protection where he might need it. Mike then helped Greg into a clean pair of plastic pants and pulled them up over Greg’s clean diaper. Mike then let Greg finish dressing himself. When Greg was dressed, Mike sent him off to go back to what ever in the woods that he and Ken were doing.
Mike added the used under pad and its contents to the trash bag and tied the bag shut. Mike took the bag of trash out to the shed and placed it with the other bags of trash.
Mike then went back to the house and took the dirty pair of plastic pants to the laundry area and rinsed them out. After he had rinsed the plastic pants clean, Mike added them to the stack of dirty laundry from yesterday. Mike sorted the laundry and had enough for one load and the start of second. Mike placed the first load into the washer and started it.
By the time Paul and Helen got back from the store the load of laundry was drying on the clothes line. Mike helped unload the car and carried the bags of groceries into the kitchen. Helen set about the task of putting away the groceries that Paul and Mike had carried in.
Both Ken and Greg appeared from the woods looking for something to eat. They had played hard and were now ready to eat any thing they could find. Helen said that she would fix them lunch after she was done putting the groceries away. Mike asked if either one of them needed a diaper changed. Both boys said no. Mike checked them any way and found that Ken was wet and did need to be changed. Mike took Ken upstairs to change him before lunch.
When Ken and Mike came back downstairs lunch was being served. The day was hot and both Greg and Ken were yawning through lunch.
After lunch Helen said that it was nap time for her grandsons. Helen sent the boys to their room and followed them upstairs. A few moments later she came back downstairs and said that they were a sleep. She went to do the dishes but found that Mike and Paul had done them already. The three of them went out on to the porch and sat in the shade look into the woods, in short while they to were a sleep too.
It was a fly that buzzed around Mike’s head that woke him up. He looked at his watch it was better than two hours after they had finished lunch. Mike stretched his arms and then got up. Both Helen and Paul were still a sleep.
Mike went and took the laundry off the clothes line and folded it as he took it off the line. Mike took the folded laundry into the house and went upstairs with it. He placed a small stack of laundry on Pauls and Helen’s bed. He then put the few items of his in his room. At that time he heard the not so small feet of one of his son’s in the hallway, as Mike turned around, he saw Greg coming towards him. "Hello son." Said Mike. "Hi," said Greg, as he came into Mike’s room and closed the bedroom door behind him.
"I am sorry for acting like such a baby this morning when you took care of the mess I made," said Greg. "I don’t know why I acted that way, you have changed both of us this last week and. ..." Greg was now looking at the floor and his face was very red with the start of tears in his eyes. "You did right Greg, you needed your diaper changed and you told me. I was the one that put you and your brother back in diapers sort of, and I knew that it meant changing messy diapers. Last Friday night when, I found both of you in diapers, I did not know what to do. When I did, I planed to treat the guilty party like a real baby, diapers, bottles, baby food the works and I was will to do it. So, no, you did not act like a baby this morning." Mike said. "Why did you back down, not that I would like you to treat me that way," asked Greg. "A few things happened along the way," Mike said. "Like. Never mind I think I know." Stated Greg. Mike handed Greg the last of the laundry and the items from earlier this morning for him to put in his room. Greg opened the bedroom door and a slight breeze through the room was felt. Mike finished up in his room before going back downstairs.
As Mike went into the kitchen he found Greg drinking a large class of lemonade and Helen making three more glasses of lemonade for them. Greg had on his shirt, diaper with plastic pants and that was it. As Greg drank, a small spot grew larger in the front of his diaper. It was like the lemonade was passing through him the more he drank the bigger the spot.
When Mike was finished with his drink, he said that he would change Greg and then go for a walk in the woods and any one could join him if they wished.
Mike and Greg went up to Greg’s and Ken’s room, where Mike changed Greg’s wet diapers. Ken was awake from his nap, and also wet, so Mike changed him to.
The three of them came down the stairs as a group.
Helen had made a glass of lemonade for Ken.
Helen was the only one to join Mike for his walk in the wood. Paul and the boys stayed home. Greg was going to water the garden. The other two had no plans. As Mike and Helen went deeper into the wood the air turned cold, the wind picked up and the almost cloud less sky grew dark with heavy black rain clouds. The low pitch rumble of thunder replaced the quiet of the woods. Helen and Mike turned around and headed back to the house. They only got about one hundred feet before the sky opened with the first few spits of big cold rain drops, a second or two later it was raining hard with lighting all round them. The black storm clouds blocked most the sun's light and the only bright light was the lighting followed by the thundering booms. The rain was made colder as it hit them by the high winds in the storm. The once quiet woods were no place to be during this storm. By the time they got home the storm had passed and they where soaked to the bone and shivering from being wet and so cold.
Paul had towels for both of them waiting at the back door. Helen and Mike dried themselves as best as they could before going inside.
They went to their rooms and changed into dry warm clothes.
Twenty minutes earlier the cold lemonade was needed to beat the heat, but now a cup of hot tea helped to warm the two of them up.
At six or so that evening Paul went to the shed and came back out with the grill, bag of charcoal and lighter fluid. Paul set the grill up and got the fire started as rest of them help fix dinner. Hamburgers, salad, chips, baked beans and home made ice cream for later. Paul cooked the hamburgers on the grill, while the others finished fixing the other items for dinner.
After the dishes were washed and the coffee was made, Helen got the ice cream and served up five bowls. The five of them consumed all of the ice cream that they had made in one seating.
With the ice cream gone the dishes where put a side and the game came out. The boys picked the game it was the game that they played this morning. The game pieces were handed out and the game being. Maybe it was a childs game but every one had fun and was laughing as they played the game.
It was well past eleven that night when Paul call it a night and went to bed. Before leaving the table Paul asked if he could have one of what Helen had gotten for him last night. Helen looked at Mike, Mike looked at Helen, the boys looked at Paul then at each other and started to giggle. Mike said yes that Paul could have a baby’s diaper from the boy’s room. Paul sort of blushed at Mike’s answer, but only said thanks and good night.
It was not much later when Mike suggested that the boys go to bed also. Both Ken and Greg started to put up a fight about going to bed. Mike said OK, I will put you in your night diapers and you can stay up until grandma goes to bed if it is OK with her. Grandma said that would be fine by her. The boys again started to fight over that plan. "Then go to bed now." Said Mike. The two boys said "No." The boys where acting like little kids and Mike would not put up with at this hour of the night. Helen offered a third plan that the boys change themselves when they go to bed. "That was not part of the deal, Ken you know what I am talking about and so do you Greg so move it," said Mike. Helen spoke up with an other alternative if the guys were willing, that she would check to make sure that they had on their diapers when they went to bed. Helen gave Mike a look to say OK to this plan. Mike said fine that would work and headed off to bed.
Mike took his shower and then brushed his teeth before going to bed.
As Mike was getting into bed he heard foot steps coming up the stairs. A few seconds later he heard Helen tell the boys that she would be back with some warm milk and would read them a bed time story. Mike closed his eyes and went to sleep before Helen was back to read them.
Sunday
It was a cool wet dark dull gray morning and the light mist doted the windows. Mike took one look at the morning from his warm bed and rolled over and tried to go back to sleep. Mike tossed and turned but could not get back to sleep. The gray morning had won. Mike got up and dressed.
After Mike made some coffee, he wished that he had brought his book to read. Mike looked at the books on the one shelf and found that he had read them all. Mike had only one choice left and that was the Sunday paper. Mike left a note by the coffee pot saying that he went to get a paper.
Mike went out through the front door as his car was closer that way. When Mike started his car the clock lit up to tell any one who cared the current time. Mike had a few choice words when he saw the clock. The clock read 5:59.
Mike drove the five miles into the small town. The only place open was Sally’s restaurant, they open at five every morning and only serve breakfast, that is all and has been for fifty years so said the sign on the door. Mike opened the door and walked in and went back fifty or so years. The few patrons inside gave Mike the once over and then went back to they meals. As Mike waited for someone to help him, another patron walked in and said good morning, got a mug off of one of the shelves and went back to the kitchen. A few moments later a little girl came out of the kitchen and asked if she could show him to a table. Mike said "that he wanted to buy a paper." The little girl pointed to the dusty sign over the big old cash register that read "We work on the honor system, please make your own change. Thank You Sally." The patron that went into the kitchen came out and sat down at one of the table with his mug. Mike picked up a paper and put a one dollar and fifty cents in the open drawer of the cash register. "Thank you, and have a nice day," the little girl said as Mike walked out the door.
When Mike got back to his car the light mist had turned into a soft rain. As Mike drove back to the house he wounded what life out here was really like. Did the people know each other that well. Mike knew this much that he would go back to Sally’s one day and maybe even stay for breakfast. As Mike wounded he drove pass the drive back to the house, it was not until the cross roads that Mike realized that he missed the drive way. Mike turned the car around and drove back to the house a little mad at himself for daydreaming while driving.
Mike took the paper into the house with him and set it down on the floor next the easy chair. Mike then went into the kitchen and removed his note and poured himself a second mug of coffee before going back to read the paper. On the front page of the paper was a story about the ‘Mall vandals a gang of six arrested’ the story captured his attention.
‘Six
youths were arrested late Saturday night. The six are the ones that vandalized
the Video Game Room and other store at the local mall last Wednesday. The
groups' leader has not been arrested, at the time this story was going to print.
Police plan to arrest the leader later today. The police suspect that eight to
ten other youths were involved in the vandalizing of the mall and scaring mall
patrons. The police and the state police are look for the others. Any one that
saw the vandals are asked to call the police at 1-800-555-COPS’
The story sent a cold shiver down Mike’s back and the word gang would not leave his head. Mike set the front page of the paper on the floor and then hunted for the comics. As he was looking for the comics the stair case squeaked. Mike looked up to see Helen coming down the stairs. Helen was surprised to see Mike and the paper. Helen said good morning to Mike and asked for the coupons. Mike wanted to show her the front page of the paper but decided to wait until after breakfast.
Mike asked if the boys were good last night after he went to bed. Helen said "yes they were they were very good." Mike said that he was glad that they were good boys. Helen put down the coupons and looked Mike straight in the eyes and asked two questions back to back. "What part of what deal? What happens after today if the boys wish to wear diapers?" "The deal was that I was to take care of them, to try to show them that I loved them no matter what they did or do. The second question it will be up to them, if they wish to wear diapers fine, if not that is fine too but it is up to them. After today they are on their own for that item," said Mike "If they were to ask you Mike what would you tell them," questioned Helen. Just what I said, they would not have to hide the fact from me that they are wearing a diaper but it is up to them. Helen said that Mike maybe asked that very question sometime soon. "So that is what last night was all about," said Mike. "That and some more but that is between them and me," stated Helen.
Helen then asked Mike for the front page of the paper, which he handed to her. Mike watched as she looked over the front page and then she turned to page two.
The stair case squeaked to announce that someone else was coming down them. A moment later Paul appeared, dressed for the day and in search of his morning coffee. Paul took the sports section of the paper with him into the kitchen. He was muttering that his team lost a game that they should have won. The other team had lost eight games in a row. Paul came out of the kitchen with his coffee and the sports section of the paper and sat down in his chair. Paul finished reading the sports before moving to the comics then the front page.
By this time Helen had seen all of the paper that she cared to have read and went upstairs to get dressed. Mike finished the other sections that he likes to read on Sundays. When he looked up Paul was pointing to the story on the front page about the mall. Mike said I have read it and I will talk to the boys after breakfast about it. There was some noises that came from upstairs but Mike and Paul did not pay any attention to them.
It was about half an hour later when Helen came back downstairs dressed and with both boys behind her dressed also. All three of them went into the kitchen only saying good morning on the way by. A moment later Ken came out with plates and Greg with the silverware and they set the table for breakfast. The aroma and the sounds of breakfast being cooked filled the house.
When breakfast was served and all were seated, Ken lifted his juice glass in a toast and said "Happy Father’s Day dad."
"Ahh, thank you." An overwhelmed Mike said.
Helen kissed Paul and then Mike on the cheek the said for them to eat while the food was still hot.
After breakfast but before a dish was removed from the table Mike said that there was something that he needed to know. Helen said they are fine and the boys shook their heads in agreement. "Not that," said Mike as he got up from the table. Mike got the front page of the paper and placed it on the table then took his seat. The mall story shook both boys. A look of fear flowed over both Ken and Greg. "But we were here when that happened." Greg stated. "If you know who planned it, then call the police and tell them what you know." Mike said. "We can’t tell on a friend," said Greg. "If they are friend they are not the type of friends you want." Paul said in a soft tone. "You both are bright young adults that should know right from wrong." "Look at what happened when you lie, people that love you stop trusting you," said Mike. "But ... you wouldn’t understand," said Greg. "Understand what, that you two joined a gang and have some code of silence?" questioned Helen. "Yea," said Ken "something like that." "OK all the lies stop now, I love you both, I don’t want you dead or in jail. Your mother and I wished that you did something with your lives that was positive," said Mike. Greg and Ken looked at each other and said "Leave mom out of this." "I can’t," said Mike "it was both of us that made you, both of us care about you. I am here, and so is your mother in spirit. Talk to us." Pleaded Mike. "Can’t." The boys said. "Then talk to me," said Helen. "Can’t." The boys almost in tears said. A ray of sunshine illuminated the room and the boys’ bodies shook as they started to cry like babies. When the sun light disappeared and the gray rainy day returned, both boys stopped shaking and crying. Ken got up and went to the phone. Ken told the police who he was and started to tell them things about the group. Helen, Paul and Mike sat stunned over what had just happened. Greg started to tell them how this all took place from the first day until now in cold hard facts. When Greg and Ken were done, they asked if they go to there room. Helen shook her head to say yes they could go. The three of them sat looking at each other trying to understand what had happened.
Helen then started to clear the table of the breakfast dishes. Paul and Mike also helped with the dishes. By the time the dishes were washed and put a way the rain had stopped but the clouds were still a dark gray color.
Mike went to check on his sons after the dishes were done. The door to their bedroom was half open. Mike knocked on the door and it swung open. The boys were sitting on the floor one facing one corner and the other facing other corner. Mike asked the boys to turn around and to face him. Both of them did, with tears running down they faces. "I love you both. You did the right thing, I know it may not seem that way now," Mike said. "What is our punishment?" Ken asked in a sad voice. "None," stated Mike. "Then why did you come up?" Ken asked. "To see that you both were OK. I am your father do I need a reason to see my sons?" Mike asked. "No," Ken said. "When you are ready join us downstairs OK" Mike said and then he left the door way. At the top of the stairs were Helen and Paul watching. Mike shrugged his shoulders and headed for the stairs. Helen and Paul followed Mike down and they waited for the boys to join them.
Almost ninety minutes had passed when Helen said that was it she had it. She got up and went into the kitchen. The clatter that came from the kitchen was so loud that Mike and Paul ran into the kitchen to see if Helen was OK. She was. She was making cookies to get the boys to come downstairs. With all the noise, no boys.
As the cookies baked in the oven the house full with the aroma of baking cookies, and still no boys.
After the cookies had cooled, Helen made up a small plate of them and two small glasses of milk and took them upstairs. Helen’s voice echoed down the stair way "You two are acting like babies, it’s a good thing that you two are in diapers or I would put you in them. Your actions today are beyond words. Trust in yourself must come first, then family, then friends. Mike will you come up here."
Mike raced up the stairs and to the boys’ room where Helen had both boys in her arms. Ken and Greg were saying the they were sorry. Helen turned the boys over to their father to hold. The boys kept saying that they were sorry, sorry that they lost the trust of their dad. All Mike could do was to hold them close and try to calm their fears. The boys were too big to hold the way he felt they needed to be held. The week had lots of highs and lows with every ones' emotion's, and set new levels of trust and feeling for each other. Mike could see the physical size of his sons but the mental side only started to show itself and it was torn between the safety of childhood and the fear of the unknown of adulthood.
After a while the boys pulled a way from their dad, their faces showed the signs of the emotional burn out that they had gone through. Mike wiped the last of the tears from their eyes.
The cookies and milk seemed to help build up energy in two very fatigued boys. As the two of them eat the cookies, their dad changed their wet diapers. When he was done, he took the boys by their hands and lead them downstairs. The boys said that they were sorry for the way they acted today to grandma and grandpa. Grandma had more cookies set out on the table which Ken and Greg feasted on.
When the cookies were gone the boys looked through the Sunday paper and fell to sleep in the chairs they were sitting in. The adults let the boys sleep until the late lunch was served.
Between the boys fell a sleep and lunch Mike packed the bags to go home. Only the items needed for a diaper changing were not pack, just in case someone would need to be changed. Mike also left a little gift of baby diapers for Paul in the master bedroom. Mike also checked the laundry for any of his or the boys’ clothing that was missing because it was dirty. On his way pass his sleeping sons he could see the peace that had come over them as they slept.
Helen had made a warm lunch it was tomato soup and toasted cheese sandwiches. At was Helen who woke the boys up from their nap for lunch. It took the boys a few moments to wake up and stretch before coming to the table for lunch.
After lunch and the few dishes were done, Mike said that they would be heading home now and thanked both Helen and Paul for having them. Helen and Paul said that they were welcome any time, and that Mike knew where the key was hidden so come and use the place. Mike asked that they call him after Paul’s surgery. They said that they would. Mike asked if the guys would get the bags from upstairs and if any diapers needed to be changed. Both boys blushed at the question. I take it that is a yes said Mike. The boys went upstairs. Mike said that he would get a list of items from the school and pickup the items on the list, if the offer to tutor the boys was still good. Both Paul and Helen said that it was. Paul said that he wished to thank Mike for his understanding and for the items from the other nights. Not a problem Mike said. Paul gave Mike a hug, it was a very warm and firm hug, and it caught him totally off grad.
Mike went upstairs to take care of his sons needs. The door to the boys’ room was shut when Mike went by. Mike went to his room first and got his bag before the fact that the door to the boys’ room was shut hit him. Mike set his bag down outside of the boys’ room before he opened the door. When Mike opened the door part way he saw that Helen had beaten him to his task. She was changing Ken and Greg was taking the sheets off of his bed. Mike closed the bedroom door and took his bag downstairs.
The boys came downstairs a short time later with their bags and Helen had the sheets from the boys’ beds in her arms. Mike said that they would be leaving now and thanked Helen and Paul both for having them. Mike also wished Paul good luck on his upcoming surgery. As the boys said good-bye to grandma and grandpa, and that they would be back after the fourth for help with their school work. Grandpa said something that shocked all of them even grandpa as he said it. "When you come back if you want to wear diapers bring them." They all stood their for a moment in shock, replaying in their minds the words just said. The boys each gave grandma a kiss and a hug, grandpa just a hug before going to the car.
The drive home was quiet because both of the boys were a sleep in the back seat. The drive was slow and hard do to the heavy rains and high winds that were in their path on the way home. The back and forth of the wipers on the windshield had a hypnotic effect on Mike, as he had to follow the wiper blade to see the road in front of him. Mike stopped a couple of times on the drive home to keep himself awake and for fuel. When Mike stopped for fuel his eyes moved left to right and back as if they were attached to the wipers. The sales person at the fuel stop told Mike that the coffee today was on the house do to the bad weather today and he looked like he needed a break.
Mike got himself a cup of coffee then paid for the gasoline that he had pumped and two bottles of juice for the boys. Mike walked around the small store a few times, until the cup of coffee was finished. Mike then used the store’s restroom before going back to the car.
When Mike got back in the car both Ken and Greg were awake and were questioning where they were, as the curtain of rain hid any landmarks that would tell them where they were. Mike told them where they were and gave them the juice to drink. Mike also asked if they needed their diapers changed. Both of them said no. Mike then started the car and started back on the road home.
The simple two hour drive from the country place to home took just over four hours of driving and five hours in total with stops that Mike had made. After the car was unloaded and the bags were unpacked but before dinner was ordered from the local pizza place, Mike set about the task of changing his sons’ diapers. Both of them had very wet diapers. The good thing was that Helen had night time diapered both of the boys for the trip home. Mike did not ask any question or make any comments about it, and the boys did not offer as to why the night time diapers had been put on them either. Mike just put a regular diaper on them.
After the boys were changed and Mike had washed his hands the task of what should be on the two large pizzas was the main topic. When the selection of topping on the pizza was agreed to by all, Mike ordered the pizzas. The pizza place told Mike that they would be delivered in about forty minutes and how much they would be and that the driver carried no change.
Twenty minutes after the pizza order there was a knock at the front door. Mike got the money for the pizza delivery person and went to the door. Mike opened the door to find two police offices standing there. The officers asked if they could come in and talk to his sons ‘Ken and Greg’ they questioned the names. Mike asked if they were to be asserted. The officers stated that the boys were not in trouble, all they needed was a written statement from each of them. Mike let the two officers in and asked them what they would need. The one officer said three chairs and a table.
The one officer asked to see Ken first and for Greg to be some place that he could not hear them talk to Ken. Mike got Ken and sent Greg to his room. Mike sat in the fourth chair at the table. The officer asked for Mike to leave them, that this was police business. Mike said no way he would stay or he would call his lawyer and have him here before they would talk to either of his sons. The two police officers looked at each other then looked at Mike. Mike got up and went for the phone. The one officer said that he could stay but he could not say a word. Mike sat back down and the police started asking Ken questions.
The police had Ken write down what he knew about the group. The two officers read what Ken had written and asked him more question and made notes when Ken would answer the questions. This went on for twenty-five minutes the pizza delivery person broke the questioning. Mike stated that the questioning would wait until after they had eaten dinner and that the officers could stay to make sure that the boys did not talk about what was going on. The police did not like it, but since both of the boys were minors and witness Mike had the upper hand tonight.
After dinner the police talked with Greg and had him also write a statement out about the group. With the two statements in the police officers' hands the police told Mike that the boys would not need to go to court but the boys should get out of town for the summer. Mike said that the boys would be going to their grandparents' house after the 4th of July. The police said that would work out well and thanked the boys and Mike for their help and dinner. The two police officers let them selves out of the house.
Mike looked at the clock and saw that it was a few minutes to nine thirty. Mike said that the boys’ punishment would end at ten. Mike also said that he was proud that his sons talked to the police and he hoped that they all, he included learned something this last week. Mike went to the kitchen and put the few dishes into the dishwasher. The empty pizza boxes in the trash. Mike also set the coffee maker up to brew his morning coffee at five a.m. tomorrow morning.
Mike asked if any one wanted any ice cream. Two yes votes came from the other room. Mike served three bowls of ice cream. Mike carried the three bowls into the family room where the TV on and the last of a show was finishing before the ten o’clock news.
At ten o’clock Mike asked the boys if they wanted to stay in their diapers that night or not. Both boys blushed and said that they would wear their diapers to bed because they had been wetting them in their sleep and did not want to wet their bed. Mike then asked if they wanted help with their diapers when they went to bed. Both said yes, that they liked the private time with him even though at first it was embarrassing to be diapered by their dad.
That night when Mike went to change Greg. Greg asked his dad to close the door when he came in. Mike did as Greg had asked. Greg asked his dad if he would mind if he were to ware diapers for a while longer. Mike said no he would not mind, but Greg would have to make that choice himself. Greg said that was OK with him. With that, Mike changed Greg for the last time. Mike stopped and looked at Greg and said, "I love you, I really do love you." Greg then placed his arms round his father and gave him a big hug, and a kiss and smiled. Mike then started for the door. Mike stopped at the door and said, "Good night, son, and have pleasant dreams." Greg said, "Good night dad."
Mike then went to Ken’s room to change him for the last time. Ken also asked his dad if he would mind if he stayed in diapers for a little longer. Mike told him the same thing as he had told Greg. Ken then asked his dad about what had happened between Greg and Mike, from fights with words to now this. Mike said to Ken, "The bad thing is, or maybe a good thing is, that it took diapers to stop the fighting." As Ken lay down for the last time to let his father change him, he said that he would miss this. Mike shook his head in agreement he too would miss the private time with each of them. Mike put the lotion, powder and the diapers on Ken for the last time. "I knew Friday night that it was you who started it by the fact that you were crying. The two things that didn’t figure on was Greg saying it was him and his willingness to be feed baby food. I figured you would be the one but ... Goodnight and have happy dreams," said Mike. Then he started to walked out of the room. Ken said, "Good night dad I love you, and thank you for understanding."
Mike went to his room and got ready for bed. Mike was sad because tomorrow he would have to go to work the vacation was over. Tomorrow his sons would have to take care of them selves and hopefully they would know he loved them and trusted them.
Mike laid his head on the pillow and heard something. He reached under the pillow and found. A note written by both of his sons, it read, "We love you dad. Love, Ken and Greg."
Mike fell off to sleep thinking about how short the vacation was, how he and Greg are now treating each other and the gift under his pillow.
The next morning Mike was up with his alarm from his alarm clock before sunrise. Just before he was ready to leave Mike looked out the window at the start of the new day the color was breath taking. Mike decided to get the boys up tp watch it with him.
They stood together watching the sunrise. Mike said to the boys "Thank you for the note it means a lot." Then Mike had to leave for work and the boys went back to bed.
