Chapter Seven
Wandering Around
“Ian, it’s time to get up.” I heard a voice say while I felt my shirt being pushed up my chest.
“Huh?” I replied groggily as I bolted up right.
“East there. It’s time to get up.” I was told again as I felt my plastic pants being lifted away from my waist a bit and a couple of fingers being placed inside of them.
“You know all you have to do is ask if I need to be changed.” I said as I became more aware of my surroundings and saw Megan standing next to me.
“Sorry. I’m used to having to actually needing to check. David has this habit of going around in wet diapers to the point that they’re almost leaking” I was told with a slightly embarrassed grin as Megan removed her fingers from the front of my diapers and let the plastic pants snap back into place.
“I think those will hold till after breakfast.” I was told as Megan headed towards the bathroom door next to my bed. I assumed that she was just going to use that as a short cut into Issac’s room since we shared the bathroom.
Once Megan left the room I climbed out of bed and walked over to my dresser after finding a pair of PJ bottoms that I knew would fit over my diapers, I put them on and headed downstairs. I wasn’t to surprised to see that Isaac and Brad were already at the table. I did find it surprising though to see that, like Isaac, Brad just had on a long T-shirt and a pair of briefs. I had assumed that he probably would have come down to breakfast dressed like I was. I then remembered that my uncle had mentioned that Brad was sensitive about still needing to wear diapers to bed, so I assumed he had changed out of his night diapers before coming downstairs.
“Morning Ian. How are you feeling this morning?” My aunt asked when she saw me walk into the room.
“Fine, ma’am. Thank you for asking.” I replied a bit formally. This earned me a raised eyebrow from my aunt, but I could tell that she wasn’t going to say anything about it.
“Where’s Uncle Brian?” I asked on looking around and not seeing him.
“He’s already left for work.” I was told as I sat down at the table
“Take your meds before you do anything else.” My aunt added pointing to a small plate with some pills laying on it next to my water glass. Without any hesitation, I placed the pills in my mouth and washed them down with the large glass of water that was next to them. What I was asked next made me freeze up a bit.
“Would you like to explain to me why your father and I found you sleeping on the floor last night when we came to check on you?” Not knowing what to say, I opted for the truth since I felt I would get into the least amount of trouble that way.
“I couldn’t manage to get comfortable in bed.”
“You mean the mattress was to hard?”
“No, ma’am. It was too soft. I’m used to sleeping on the floor or hanging from the ceiling.” I added without thinking. On hearing the clatter of silverware being dropped, I looked up and saw that my aunt and cousins were looking at me with shocked expressions on their faces.
“I’m sorry.” I whimpered on seeing the looks on everyone’s face.
“It’s OK. Don’t worry about it.” My aunt told me soothingly I just nodded at this but still couldn’t bring myself to look up from my plate.
“So what all do you guys have planned for the day?” My cousins were asked in an attempt to break the awkward silence that had started to grow and to change the subject.
“I planned on going over to Archie’s.” Brad piped in first.
“What about your soccer practice this afternoon?” he was asked.
“Archie’s mom was going to drop us off. And I was just going to walk home from there.” came the reply.
“OK, but I’ll pick you up. Call me on my cell if you’re going to be running late.” his mom told him.
“What about the rest of you?” my other cousins were asked.
“I work this afternoon, and was going to spend the night at Connie’s .” Megan said after taking a sip of juice. My aunt just nodded at this before looking at Isaac and David. Both telling her that they didn’t have any plans for the day.
“In that case you won’t mind joining Grammy, Ian, and I for a fun afternoon of shopping.” My aunt said with a slight smile. Judging from the looks on their faces I could tell that this was the last thing my cousins wanted to do
“Boys would you mind taking Ian down to the Rec room while I try to get some work done before Grammy gets here?” My aunt asked my cousins as she got out of her seat . I knew that pretty soon I would have to start thinking of them as my brothers, but at this point I was still trying to get used to them as my cousins
“You can leave those Ian. Anita and I will take care of them. You just go with your brothers.” My aunt told me with a bit of a smile as I started to gather up the dishes. I turned a bit red at getting caught at this and just sort of froze
“Don’t worry about it. I know it’ll take time to adjust to things” My aunt told me while pulling me into a soft embrace. As before, I flinched a bit at the touch. My aunt just held me closer hummed softly in my ear. After a few seconds I was released and handed over to my brothers.
“I’ll call you when it’s time to leave” I heard as I was pulled down the hallway.
Having only seen a few of the rooms in the house to this point I was amazed at how large the house really was. I was completely shocked however, when I was led down a moderately long hallway and found myself looking down into a fairly good-sized room. I suddenly realized that the building I had assumed was the garage was really the recreation room my aunt was talking about.
“Well don’t just stand there.” Isaac said while trying to lead me down the stairs into the main part of the room. I stopped to take everything in. I couldn’t place it but for some reason things looked strangely familiar to me. I barely even heard Isaac explaining where everything was. Things clicked into place when I heard “And this is the game room!” As Isaac touched a hidden button and a portion of the bookcase we were standing in front of opened. All of a sudden I could have sworn I was back at my father’s house and was about to enter the pits of hell. To say I freaked out would have been an understatement I think I must have scared both David and Isaac out of a year’s growth with the way I screamed and started to scramble away from them. Luckily, Grammy walked into the room not five seconds after all this started I think I heard her calling for my aunt, but I was to far gone to be sure of anything The second I felt Grammy’s hand on my shoulder I let out a gasp and fell into a quivering heap at her feet.
I saw my aunt kneeling over me when I started to return to normal about twenty minutes later
“Easy there Ian. It’s OK.” I was told softly as I was kept from sitting up to fast. After a few moments of disorientation, what happened a few minutes before came rushing back to me.
“I’m sorry. When Isaac open the door to the game room, I could have sworn I was back at my father’s house.” I stuttered and broke down crying before I could get anything else out.
“It’s OK Ian. You don’t have anything to be sorry about. Just let it out.” My aunt told me softly, while gently rubbing my back..
It took me almost an hour to finally calm down enough that my aunt and Grammy felt I’d be able to go out and get my new wardrobe without to many complications. Just as my aunt was getting ready me strapped into my car seat Nana showed up with a couple of men.
“Carol what brings you here today?” My aunt asked in surprise of seeing her mother-in-law walking up the front steps.
“I just wanted to run some ideas past Sam and Dave here about that project I talked to you about last week.” Carol said while flashing me a smile.
“Ok. We were just getting ready to go out and get Ian his new wardrobe. We can wait a bit if you’d like to join us.”
“Thanks for the invitation, but I’ll pass on that for now. I’m not sure how long it’ll take to get things set up.” About this time Grammy walked out of the house with David and Isaac leading the way. My new brothers came charging up when they saw that Nana was standing there.
After a few minutes more of talking, David was strapped into his car seat while Isaac took the spot between us. I was a bit uncomfortable about having any money spent on me, even though I knew I was needing the new clothes. I must have dozed off a bit on the ride into town because I soon felt myself being shaken awake by Isaac.
“Wake up, Ian. We’re here.” I was told. I was more than a little shocked after I was helped out of the car and saw that we had pulled up in front of a Nordstrom’s Department store.
“Aunt Mary are you sure we pulled up to the right place?” I asked nervously as I was led around to the back of the car and had my shorts pulled down to see if I was needing a diaper change. Luckily, I was still dry at this point.
“What do you mean Ian?” I was asked as David got the same treatment.
“Well you said we were going to get me some more clothes, but this must be the wrong place for me.” I tried to explain to her as I pulled my shorts back up I was led back towards the front of the car and after being lifted up into the front seat so my aunt could look me in the eyes she started talking to me softly
“This isn’t the wrong place Ian. And I’ll tell you now that I don’t want to hear any complaints concerning the cost. You let Grammy and I worry about that OK?” I was told in a kind voice. The look I saw in my aunt’s eyes though told me not to push my luck. I just nodded glumly. By the time my aunt and I walked back around to rear of the car Grammy was pulling David’s shorts back up over a clean diaper.
I’d have to say that everyone was having a blast over the course of the next several hours with the exception of myself. While I was doing my best not to pay attention to the amount of money being spent on me I couldn’t help feel that it was way to much. I think this stemmed from that fact that up till now, aside from my suits, all of my clothes have come from Salvation Army Thrift shops. So this meant that I wasn’t used to having clothing as nice as the ones that I now found myself being fitted into. By the time my aunt was done getting all my new clothes together, Grammy rejoined us. I saw my aunt and her mom trade a small look when Grammy rejoined us, so I knew something was going on that I didn’t know about. I did get the feeling that it had something to do with how Grammy had gone off on her own for about an hour.
“Isaac. Why don’t you take Ian and David over to the toy department while Grammy and I take care of these. And stay together.” I heard my mom announce as we walked over to cashier.
“Sure mom!” Isaac said excitedly after his mom bent over and whispered something in his ear. After a nod toward his brother, he and David grabbed my arms and started leading me off toward the requested department.
“You’re really going to like this.” David told me as we entered the toy area. Some of the training I had been through over the years suddenly reasserted itself as I stopped dead in my tracks. David and Isaac were both thrown off balance by my sudden stop and no matter how hard they tried couldn’t get me to move any faster than a slow pace. I tended to stay a few steps back from my brothers as they looked over all the toys that were on display. The closest I got to touching anything was when we walked past a display of stuffed animals and I happened to see a copy of the wolf David had given me a short time before.
“You can get it if you want.” Isaac told me when he saw that I was looking at it. I just shook my head and started to walk away from the display after one last longing look. After about thirty minutes, Grammy and Aunt Mary joined us.
“You guys have what you want picked out?” Aunt Mary asked. I didn’t answer since I assumed the question was aimed at David and Isaac.
“Didn’t you want anything Ian?” Grammy asked me when she saw that I was standing back a ways and didn’t answer.
“No, ma’am. I’m fine.” I told her. I could tell from the look on her face that she wasn’t to pleased with my answer.
“OK. If you’re sure.” She said as she pushed me on ahead of her to catch up with David and my aunt. I hadn’t noticed that Isaac had held back and whispered something in her ear before running to catch up with us.
“I though we had lost you .” my aunt joked when her mom rejoined us at the car a few minutes later.
“Sorry. I saw something I had been looking at for a while. I thought you heard me when I said I’d catch up.”
“I must have missed you saying that. Well, now that we’re all together, who’s ready for some lunch?” my brother both let out loud agreements, and I just nodded.
“Alright, but first I think I know a couple of young men that probably need a dydee change.” My aunt said with a small grin while looking at David and I.
“Nope, I’m fine.” David replied with a smile. Though I couldn’t understand this, since I could smell that he needed a change from a few feet away. I assumed my aunt knew what my answer would be by the way I blushed.
“If you’ll just come around to my parlor, we’ll get you fixed up” David and I were told as we were led to the back of the car and had our shorts removed. When my aunt saw the condition of David’s diaper she also removed his shirt.
“Mom would you mind taking care of Ian while I tend to Mr. “ Nope, I’m fine”.” I heard my aunt say with a chuckle as she pulled open the tapes on David’s diaper.
I about gagged on the smell when the diaper was pulled away from my brother’s crotch
“Jeez David. Next time you mess your pants like this let someone know sooner so we can get you changed before a rash sets in or you gas out the people around you.” David’s mom told him crossly while she reached for some of the wipes from the tub that sat between David and I. Luckily, while my diaper was wet it wasn’t bad enough to get yelled at for. David was still getting cleaned up by the time Grammy finished taping my new diaper closed. I soon had my shorts back on and was being placed into my car seat.
Five minutes later David was finally placed in is own car seat by Grammy as his mom went off to place his extremely soiled diaper into a nearby trashcan. David was a bit upset by the fact that he wasn’t given his shorts back.
“Mom can I please have my pants back?” he whined.
“I said no. Since you can’t be trusted to tell someone when you need to be changed we need to be able to see when you need one. Now I don‘t want to hear another word about it.” He was told.
Lunch was a bit subdued because of David’s pouting. I got a bit of shock myself when I was told about a meeting that I was going to be having the next morning.
“Ian. I wanted you to know that tomorrow morning I’ll be taking you to the boys school so we can get you enrolled and tested to see what grade you’ll be in this coming year.” my aunt told me after our meals came. Hearing this made me stop the bite I was about to take.
“I thought I’d be in the next grade that I finished with last term.” I said in confusion.
“We had the school do some checking so they could get your transcripts and they couldn’t even find that you had ever been enrolled. Home schooled or otherwise Because of this, the school you’ll be attending wants to make sure that you get placed in the correct grade.” my aunt told me. While this made sense to me on one level, I was more than a little angry to find out that my former parents were still trying to mess my life up. This bummed me out to no end. I knew both my mom and grandmother could tell since after hearing this I barely touched my meal.
We got home a about an hour later.
“Is it OK if I go out back for awhile? I need some time to myself.” I explained and asked my mom as she helped me out of the car.
“Sure let’s just get you into a clean diaper first.” I was told since everyone in the car heard me have an accident in them on the ride home. I just nodded at this and followed her into the house.
“We’ll do the change in David’s room.” I was told just as I reached my bedroom door. With a shrug I followed my aunt into David’s room. Even though I had already seen it several times, I still couldn’t understand how anyone over the age of Six would be able to stand it. I mean, it looked like David was still using a toddler bed, and had the walls painted in a very childish style. The only items that made sense to me for him to have were the changing table and computer desk that he had along one wall. The small entertainment system that was displayed in another childishly painted cabinet along the remaining wall. And finally, the toy box he had at the foot of his bed.
“Uh, Aunt Mary?” I asked timidly while looking around the room.
“Yeah.”
“If You guys every decide to redo my room you’re not going to make it look like this are you?” I asked nervously as I was helped up onto the changing table
“Don’t worry. We won’t do anything like this to your room when we have it done.” I was told with a smile as I felt the tapes being undone and the front of the diaper being pulled down
“Well this is a surprise.” I was told with a chuckle.
“What’s a surprise?” I asked as I felt a wipe being run over my groin to clean me up.
“There’s nothing here but pee. You must have had a ghost poop.” My aunt said with a laugh.
“The bathroom is through that door if you want to use it.”
“Nah, that’s OK. I don’t feel like I need to go now.” My aunt just nodded at this and started applying some lotion and powder to my butt and groin. I was more than a little shocked when she pulled out several cloth diapers and started fitting me into those. She must have noticed the look on my face because she started to explain a couple of things to me.
“Except for certain times, we always use cloth diapers around the house. We find it’s cheaper in the long run than using disposables all the time.” I just shrugged at hearing this since it did make perfect sense. Once the diapers were firmly closed around me, I was told to raise my butt up some and I felt a pair of plastic pants being slipped under me. They turned out to be snap style pants because they were pulled up like my diapers were.
“Before you go out , Dr. Lavin gave me some lotion to apply to your back and chest” My aunt told me as I got off the table.
“Man, that stuff stinks.” I blurted out as my aunt started rubbing the stuff over my chest and back.
“I know, but they say that’ll help reduced how noticeable your scars are” I nodded at this. Once she was done I started reaching for the shirt and shorts I had been wearing.
“How about we just leave those off for now. You could use a bit of sun. And it’s not like we haven’t seen boys around here going around in just diapers before. I shrugged again and headed out of the room. I soon found myself walking out the back door and heading towards that wooded area that was at the far end
