Mike P.	56	For me having a bowel movement is what typically prolongs my diaper change. It just takes longer to get changed after I've messed myself (I'm incontinent). Depending on how extensive my BM is, it can take 15 or more minutes to get myself cleaned-up (I'm also paraplegic which limits my ability to move around). Even when I needed others to take care of me, BM's always lengthened the time needed to be changed.

Mike P.	56	First, I've been changing myself for a long time. No one else has changed me since early adulthood. As a child at school, I didn't like to be seen by others when I was being changed, but I also hated school and was sort of glad to be away from the classroom when I was changed. So on the one hand I wanted to be changed quickly to reduce my visibility to other boys in the bathroom, but sometimes I didn't care how long it took. At home I was always glad to get in and out of the bathroom quickly so I could go back to whatever I was doing (except homework).

I can't say how she did it, but she could have me in and out of the bathroom in minutes. For others who I were able to change me quickly I think it was just a matter of wanting to get it over with.

Mike P.	56	My father was the slowest diaper changer largely because beyond a certain age he didn't want to do it. Although I was between 9 and 10 when I began changing myself, I still needed help in the bathroom from time to time. Although my father usually "helped me" by getting my mother, there were times when he had to change me (or help me get cleaned-up after a BM), and it just took forever. He couldn't deal with the odor, he didn't like having to come in contact with my soiled diaper, etc, and it seemed to take a long time.

Mike P.	56	Presently, I just want to get in and out of the bathroom as quickl as I can. But when I was in school, a long time ago, and I had just started changing myself I often procrastinated in the bathroom because I hated being in the classroom. There was a chair in the boys' bathroom for kids with spina bifida to sit on while they changed themselves. Sometimes I'd go the the boys' room (to get changed), but if no one was using the chair I'd just sit on it and daydream or socialize with whomever happened to be in the bathroom at the time without starting my diaper change (unfastening my pants, getting my rubber pants pulled down, etc). As long as no one else needed the chair (of course I was allowed to use the chair), I'd just take my time because I didn't want to go back to my classroom (and if I suspected that I had a BM accident) and I wasn't in a hurry to get changed either.
