I was surprised in second grade when I saw Ricky Carlson at the urinal with a cloth diaper down to his ankles. I only saw it once and never said anything about it. He was kind of a bully and we were not friends.

		The boy I found out to be DL as well was in the grade lower than me. It's actually a pretty funny story. He one day added me to MSN and we started chatting. First, we found out we lived in the same area. Then really close by, but in different suburbs. Then we found out we actually went to the same school. Coincidence or not, this is the truth. We talk sometimes online, but never at school.

Deeker	35	His name was John. I was in the eighth grade and he was in the seventh grade. I saw him in the locker room before and after gym class. I often saw him putting on several pairs of plain white boys' briefs to serve as his diapers. He often smelled of poop, so I knew this was how he used his diapers.

In sixth grade one of the neighbor kids who i went to school with accidently left his goodnites out in the middle of the day, in the middle of his room. And in seventh grade i worked with special needs kids and one of them wore pull-ups.
Mike P.	56	I attended a special school for disabled children. I have spina bifida and I have always needed diapers since I'm incontinent (bowel and bladder). The school I attended covered grades K through 12 and annually had a population of about 400 kids. Most of the kids had cerebral palsy or polio, but less than 10% of us (boys and girls) had spina bifida. In general all of the kids with spina bifida had bowel and bladder control (continence) issues and needed to wear diapers. We all used the same bathrooms (eg., we weren't segregated or isolated from the other kids with regard to using the bathroom), so it was fairly commonplace to encounter someone in the bathroom being changed.

TonyTouch222	22	I never got to because my friend in sixth grade snatched them up so fast and put them in the bathroom, he denied they were his.
Mike P.	56	Perhaps surprisingly, we rarely talked among ourselves about things related to our disabilities. Moreover, for the kids with spina bifida we rarely talked about our incontinence we each other. As we got older, and were able to change ourselves, the school kept chairs in the bathrooms for us to sit on while we got changed. Obviously, only one person at a time could get changed. So, for example, if I was sitting on the chair changing myself, and someone else came into the bathroom to get changed, I'd usually something like, "I'll be done in a few minutes," and the other person would leave a come back later to get changed. Of course other kids were able to go about their business and use the toilets while I was getting changed.

Deeker	35	I suspect he had bowel accidents, but then he might have been sent to school like this. He seemed to have some developmental problems and while not retarded, he did seem a little "slow." Later on I considered the possibility that he did this to protect himself from sexual abuse, either by making his private regions inaccessible with all the extra underwear, or by soiling himself to make himself less desireable to the other person.

Mike P.	56	Like me, they had spina bifida which is a birth defect that affects the spinal cord. The nerves that enable bowel and bladder control are at the lowest region of the spine, and so bowel and bladder control are common to most people with spina bifida. Many of us can't feel when we need to go to the bathroom to urinate or have a bowel movement. I grew up in the 50's and 60's, a time when very litte was done medically to deal with these incontinence issues. So we were just kept in diapers (cloth as the disposables hadn't been developed), and over time we learned how to take care of ourselves in the bathroom.
