Summer Camp and Bedwetting Diapers

Kevin’s fourth grade year ended in the beginning of June. Kevin was very happy that school was out but he was very nervous about going to sleep away camp for the first time. Camp was going to start three weeks after school was over for the year.

Kevin was a normal ten year-old boy who was very much into everything that other boys his age were. Swimming, boating, hiking and ball games are thing that Kevin would have enjoyed at camp—if it were a day camp. Unfortunately for Kevin, this was a month long summer camp which means sleeping over! Kevin was still wearing diapers at night for bedwetting. Kevin wasn’t toilet trained until he was almost six and he was still peeing the bed. Back when Kevin was in fourth grade, Goodnites weren’t made yet. He still wore baby diapers that would leak a lot.

The first three weeks of summer went by so fast. The day before camp started, Kevin had to pack for the summer. Kevin’s mom helped him by getting all his clothes washed and stacking them on his bed so he could pick what he wanted to bring. Kevin opened two suitcases and put in a bunch of shorts, pants, shirts, underwear, socks, and a few pairs of sneakers. Then Kevin thought about what he was going to wear to bed. At home Kevin didn’t wear pajamas. He just wore a diaper and sometimes a tee shirt. The problem was that Kevin’s tee shirt wasn’t long enough and the diaper would definitely show.

He asked his mom what he was gonna do and she said she would take him to the store to buy some pajamas. Kevin thought that no kid his age wore pajamas so his mom brought him a few of his dads big tee shirts that would cover Kevin’s diapers.

After Kevin finished packing, he went outside to say goodbye to his neighborhood friends. After dinner, Kevin brought his suitcases downstairs and put them by the front door. He went upstairs and got ready for bed. He wore Fitti size five disposable diapers to bed that were a little tight but they did fit. Those diapers had little balloons with smiley faces on them that would disappear when the diaper was wet. He got on his diapers and brushed his teeth and went downstairs to watch TV.

That night Kevin fell asleep and wet his diaper. In the morning, Kevin woke up real early in a diaper that didn’t have any smiley faces on them. It was also real leaky. Kevin got really sad when he thought of how the other boys at camp would make fun of him when they saw his saggy toddler diapers.

Kevin sat in front of the TV and ate some dry cereal out of the box. Then when his parents got up, his dad put his suitcases in the car and his mom made a real breakfast for them. Kevin went up to his room to take off his wet diaper and get dressed. After breakfast, they left for the camp.

When they got there, they met the counselors and got Kevin’s bags unpacked in his cabin. Kevin saw that there were five other beds in the cabin. When he was all unpacked, Kevin’s parents said goodbye. They said they’d see him on the weekends. When his parents left, Kevin talked to his cabin leader Josh. Josh was a nice guy. He was going to be a senior in high school in September. Josh explained to Kevin that he didn’t have to be afraid because that cabin was only for bedwetters. Josh told Kevin that he works in this cabin because he used to wet at night and he used to wear diapers. Kevin learned that one other boy in his cabin wore diapers. The other boys had either rubber sheets or bed pads because they weren’t heavy or frequent wetters.

After the orientation class, all the boys split off into groups. Kevin met a boy named Joey. As it turned out, Joey was in Kevin’s cabin. Joey and Kevin went on a canoe with two other guys. Then the whole camp played dodge ball. Before long, it was lunchtime. Kevin found out that Joey lived only about a half an hour away from him. Kevin finished lunch and went over to the archery range. After a whole day off fun, it was time to go bed. Kevin noticed that that cabin was the only cabin with a bathroom in it. That was so the boys that needed diapers could change without going to the outhouse.

Kevin saw Joey go into that bathroom which probably meant that he was the other boy in diapers. Joey walked out with a long tee shirt on and Kevin couldn’t hear a diaper or see a bulge under the shirt. Then Kevin went in the bathroom with one of the Huggies that his parents bought for him on the way to camp. Kevin threw one of his dad’s shirts on over his diaper. It was obvious that he had a diaper on but of course no one in the cabin seemed to care. Josh turned off the light and everyone went to sleep.

In the morning, Kevin woke up in soaked diapers. His dad’s shirt had a big wet spot on the front of it he was too embarrassed to get out of bed. So he just stayed in bed. Josh woke up and quickly woke everyone else up. Joey was sleeping next to Kevin. He saw that Kevin looked kind of upset. When he asked what the matter was Kevin said that he had a very leaky diaper on. Joey told Josh and Josh got all the other boys ready to go. They left without Kevin and Joey. Kevin got up and Joey saw Kevin’s leak spot on his shirt. He said, "Hey Kev, let me see your diaper."

Kevin lifted up his shirt and showed Joey his drippy Huggies. Joey said "Why do you where those and not these?" Then Joey lifted up his shirt and showed Kevin his diaper. It was a pull-ups. Kevin never saw those before. He asked Joey how they worked and Joey said that he was wet but he felt dry. Kevin saw that Joey’s bed was dry too and Joey’s diaper didn’t leak at all. Then he felt embarrassed when he looked down at his own droopy pee-pee diapers. Joey said " Don’t worry Kev, I brought a few extra and you can use one tonight if you want."

Kevin was so glad that he met Joey. After they both got changed, they went to the breakfast room. Kevin and Joey had a lot of fun on the nature hike that day. The only thing was that Kevin found out it was going to be practice for the overnight camping trip up the mountain the last week of camp. Kevin didn’t mind wearing diapers in front of the other bedwetters but he definitely didn’t want to wear them when sleeping in a tent when other guys could see him. Kevin asked Josh about it and Josh said not to worry. The tents are going to hold the same guys that the cabins do only they’ll be divided up into three guys in a tent and one counselor. Kevin realized that he didn’t bring a sleeping bag but Josh said that the campground kept sleeping bags for the campers. Kevin was still a little worried but the overnight trip wasn’t gonna be for a few weeks.

That night Kevin put on one of Joeys diapers in the bathroom in the cabin. They were sort of like underwear except they were thicker and they had tear away sides on them. They also had blue and yellow cars and trucks on the front of them. Kevin saw that they were much more stretchy than his Huggies which he liked. When he slipped a shirt over it and walked out, Joey looked at him. Then Joey came over to Kevin’s bed and sat down. He asked Kevin how he liked the diaper.

"These seem pretty cool. I hope they work good."

"They work o.k. on me. They usually don’t leak as long as I don’t drink too much before I go to bed."

Kevin and Joey talked for a while and then Josh came out of the bathroom and turned off the lights.

They next morning Kevin woke up and quickly looked down at his diaper. He didn’t see any leak spots on the bed and his shirt was dry, too. He could feel the diaper was a little wet but it not completely soaked. Then he went into the bathroom and took off his shirt. He looked in the mirror and saw that they weren’t saggy like his baby diapers were when they were wet. Kevin wished that he had these all the time.

That day he asked Josh if he could get him some pull-ups. Josh said that the next day the camp would be going into the town to buy stuff. Kevin told him he didn’t want anyone to see him buying diapers and Josh told him that he’d buy them for him. Kevin liked Josh a lot. You could tell he was a bedwetter too because he knew what it was like to be embarrassed about it.

During the day, Kevin played football with a few of the other guys and then went swimming for a few hours. At dinner they roasted hotdogs over the campfire. Kevin really enjoyed camp. He had no idea that it would be more fun than day camp. Before it started, Kevin thought that this camp was only going to be nothing but embarrassment for him; with other boys calling him "baby" or "diaper boy".

That night wasn’t so good for Kevin. When he went to bed he had to wear one of his baby diapers. When he put it on he knew that the other boys could hear him taping on his diaper. Of course those boys didn’t care but it was still humiliating. Kevin was also very thirsty. He knew that if he drank too much he would pee in his diaper too much and it would leak. But he didn’t care at the time. He was so thirsty that he put his shorts back on over his diaper and went out to the main cabin to get a soda. He brought it back to the cabin and drank it quickly. Then he went to bed.

In the middle of the night Kevin woke up because he was really wet. He pulled down the sheets and felt the top of his diaper and it was still very warm so he must have just peed. He felt it dripping around the leg cuffs. His shirt was soaked too. He was very mad. He wished that he went to bed thirsty but he knew that even if he had pull-ups on they would have leaked too. He was really wet and there wasn’t much he could do about it without waking everyone else up. So he quietly got out of bed and went over to Josh’s bed. He pushed softly on Josh’s shoulder. Josh opened his eyes and saw Kevin looking down at him with tears in his eyes. Josh whispered "What’s the matter, Kev?"

Kevin said "I had a real bad accident and my bed got wet."

Josh sat up and put his legs on the side of the bed. It was very dark but he could see that Kevin’s long blue tee shirt had a big dark blue spot on the front of it. He could also feel something dripping on his toe. He said "Want me to help you out there guy?"

Kevin nodded. Josh got up and went into the bathroom and got some sheets out of the closet. Then he went over to Kevin’s suitcase and got out one of his diapers. He quietly changed Kevin’s sheets and walked Kevin back to the bathroom. He told Kevin to lift up his shirt. Josh ripped the tapes on Kevin’s soggy diaper. Then he got a piece of toilet paper and wet it in the sink and wiped Kevin off a little. Then he took the dry diaper and helped Kevin hold it in place while Kevin fixed the tapes.

While Kevin was getting changed, Josh told Kevin how when he was 13, he used to wear baby diapers to bed and they would leak because they didn’t fit right. Kevin felt very weird when Josh took off his diaper. But he was glad that Josh was doing that instead of making fun of him. Josh said that he used to wear Luvs and they leaked all the time until finally, Josh stopped wetting the bed.

Then Kevin went back to a drier bed in a fresh diaper. He didn’t get much sleep because he was thinking about what the kids at school would say if they found out that he wore diapers and had them changed by a high school kid.

In the morning, Kevin got up and his diaper was still dry. Kevin took of his diaper and got dressed. He felt very shy about having Josh change his diaper. He told Josh "Thank you". Josh just said ‘no problem Kev."

That afternoon, the whole camp got to go to the store in town. They had to take shifts going because the van that the camp used could only fit like 20 kids in it. On the bus, Kevin gave Josh five dollars to get him some pull-ups. Josh took it but said that the pull-ups were more expensive but not to worry because he was gonna let Kevin pay him back later. Kevin was very happy because he had enough money left to buy his self some stuff. At the store, Kevin bought some gum and some pretzels and M.A.D. magazine. He saw Josh go down the diaper aisle and pick up a package. Then Kevin and the other guys got back on the van. Josh had a big bag of stuff under his arm. Kevin knew what was in that bag.

Back at the camp that night, Kevin tried on one of the pull-ups. He was very happy with them because they were so much easier to put on then his normal diapers. He pulled up the leak cuffs and went to bed feeling a lot better. In the morning when he woke up, the pull-up seemed much thicker than when he first put it on. That’s because it was wet. The good news was it wasn’t leaky. Kevin was so happy. But he knew he didn’t pee that much and he wanted to test them. So he went into the bathroom and took off his shirt. He tried to pee but he only got out a few drops. "Oh well, I’ll try again tonight."

That day Kevin had a lot to drink on purpose. He drank four cans of Coke and he had three glasses of juice with lunch. After lunch they went white water rafting and Kevin felt like he had to pee on the boat. Of course he couldn’t so he waited until they got back. By the time they got back, he didn’t have to pee anymore.

Kevin drank a lot more at dinnertime. He had two cans of Sprite with dinner and two cups of water when they were roasting marshmallows. When they were getting ready for bed, Kevin put on his pull-ups and tee shirt. Kevin went to bed early that night. Joey asked him why he was sleeping so early. Kevin told him that he didn’t feel so good. He was lying because he didn’t want to tell Joey that he wanted to test his diaper. Kevin felt a little stupid because he was excited about wetting a diaper. But if the diaper held up he knew he could tell his parents to buy them for him all the time. Kevin stayed awake for a few hours. Finally, he felt like he had to pee. He went into the bathroom and stood in front of the mirror. He slowly let out the pee. He watched as the front of the pull-up got darker. He started to feel the pee build up in the diaper so he stopped peeing. He just stood there a minute and waited until the diaper absorbed it. When it did, Kevin went back to bed. The diaper did feel very wet but it wasn’t leaking. Kevin went back to sleep and slept through the whole night.

Kevin was very happy with these new diapers. When camp was over and he went home, we asked his parents to buy them and they did. Even when Kevin’s new diapers did leak it was such a little one that it didn’t really matter. Kevin kept in touch with his new friends from camp. That summer at camp changed the way Kevin felt about himself and wearing diapers.
